Fiera Milano at Rho — the sprawling exhibition centre that swallows Salone del Mobile in April and EICMA in the autumn — sits roughly 30 km from Malpensa. That is barely more than half the distance to the city centre, and it means the airport is truly closer to your stand than most of your competitors' hotels are. The drawback, and there is always a catch during fair weeks, is that the smooth, famous Malpensa Express does not roll straight up to the halls. Plan around that one fact and the rest falls into place.

The rail route the timetable actually gives you

Here is the real version of the train. You board the Malpensa Express (Trenord) at the platform beneath Terminal 1, Terminal 2 has its own stop if you flew easyJet, for a flat €15, with departures roughly every half hour. But there is no direct Malpensa Express to the fairgrounds. You ride it to Milano Porta Garibaldi and change there onto the S11 suburban line or a regional train out to Rho Fiera Milano. Plan for about 55 minutes end to end once you account for the connection. Rho Fiera also has its own metro M1 station, so if your route in from the city ever puts you on the red line, that door works too. This is the pick for the solo exhibitor travelling light, or the sales rep who left the heavy kit to ship separately, around €15 beats every other number on this page by a wide margin, and it is immune to the ring-road gridlock that fair mornings guarantee. What it is not is elegant with a case of samples in each hand: Porta Garibaldi is a big station with real walking distances, and a mid-morning change there during Salone is a scrum.

When you'd rather pay the metered fare

The taxi is where Rho's geography quietly helps you. A Milan white taxi from the official rank outside Arrivals runs the meter for this trip — Rho lies outside that famous fixed central-Milan tariff, and lands somewhere around €70 to €95, covering the ~30 km in about 35 minutes on a clear road. Because it is metered rather than flat-rate, I'd ask the driver for an estimate before you pull away; traffic and the exact hall entrance will move the needle. For one or two people in a hurry this is defensible, and for three or four splitting it, the per-head cost drops below what the fuss of a group train change is worth. The real risk is the same one that haunts every fair week: if the A8 and the ring road are jammed with truck deliveries and other arrivals, that meter keeps ticking while the train would have sailed past on rails. Blue-sky day, use the taxi; peak setup morning, weigh it carefully.

Booking the door, not the platform

It is a real driver waiting in the Arrivals hall to take the load off your hands, roughly €75 to €110 fixed, and it takes you straight to the exhibition gates in about 35 minutes rather than to a station you then have to escape. This is the one I steer exhibitors toward when they are hauling equipment: demo units, roller cases, banner tubes, the awkward flight-cased stuff that turns a Porta Garibaldi change into a nightmare. The price is fixed and quoted up front, which matters when a metered taxi could drift toward the top of its own range on a bad-traffic day. Split across a team of three or four arriving together, that €75-110 is close to a rounding error against the cost of the stand itself.

Travelling solo and light, take the train: €15, no gambling on traffic, change at Porta Garibaldi for the S11 and you're at Rho for the price of a sandwich. Arriving as a team with kit to move, book the private transfer to the gates — the fixed ~€75-110, split several ways, buys you a door and spares you the platform scrum. Keep the metered taxi (~€70-95) in your pocket for the quiet in-between days when the roads are open and you just want out of the airport fast. Whatever you choose, the reassuring truth stays the same: at 30 km, Rho is the short hop on this whole map — get the mode right and the fairgrounds are the easiest part of your week.
