Mykonos Airport ground transport

Mykonos is small โ€” you can drive from the airport to almost anywhere on it inside twenty minutes โ€” and that geography hides the real problem, which is capacity. This island handles well over a million passengers a year through a compact terminal, and it does so with a taxi fleet numbering a few dozen vehicles. On a July afternoon when three flights land together, the rank empties in minutes and does not refill quickly. That single fact explains why pre-booked transfers dominate here in a way they do not on larger, quieter islands. The public alternative is genuinely decent if you understand it: KTEL runs buses from two separate hubs in Chora, and mixing them up wastes an hour. Fabrika, the South Station, serves the airport, the New Port at Tourlos and the southern beach strip โ€” Ornos, Platis Gialos, Paradise. The Old Port, or North Station, serves Ano Mera inland and the eastern beaches at Elia, Kalafatis and Agios Stefanos. The airport service runs roughly hourly through the summer, from around 09:15 to 22:15, for about โ‚ฌ3; other island singles are โ‚ฌ1.80 to โ‚ฌ2.80, and the beach routes run remarkably late in peak season, with Platis Gialos services continuing to roughly 03:00. Carry coins โ€” card acceptance on board is inconsistent. Taxis charge a โ‚ฌ2.85 airport supplement in cash on top of the fare, and the meter climbs between midnight and five. Car and quad hire is heavy here, but parking in Chora is genuinely difficult and the old town is entirely pedestrian.
