JTR is a compact airport with one passenger terminal, sharing its runway with a military airbase, set beside Kamari on the east side of Santorini. Public transport here is limited to KTEL buses, which only connect the airport with Fira, the island's capital and central bus interchange — the fare is about €2.20, paid in cash on board, and the ride takes 10-15 minutes with departures spaced roughly every hour to 90 minutes from around 06:00 to 23:00. To reach Oia, Perissa, Akrotiri or Athinios port by bus you ride to Fira first and buy a second ticket for the onward service, so budget extra time. Taxis are a genuine bottleneck: the island has only about 40 licensed cabs, all metered, with a strict four-passenger limit and evening surcharges — in July and August the airport rank can mean a real wait. Because of this, a fixed-price private transfer booked ahead is the most predictable door-to-door choice, and car or ATV/quad hire is hugely popular for exploring (desks sit inside the terminal; an International Driving Permit is legally required and automatics sell out early).
