Dubai International Airport ground transportation
Dubai International is the world's busiest international airport, just east of the old city centre. Terminals 1 and 3 connect directly to the Red Line metro for a fast, cheap ride on a Nol card, while metered RTA taxis (with a fixed airport surcharge) and pre-booked transfers cover the resort districts door-to-door. Note the metro isn't 24-hour and starts late on Sundays, and Terminal 2 has no metro. Fares here are converted to euros at about 1 EUR ≈ 3.95 AED. Buying tickets in Dubai
Dubai Metro's Red Line links DXB Terminals 1 and 3 straight into the city, and you need a Nol card to ride, there is no cash entry. Buy one from the ticket machines or the counter at the airport metro station. A single-use Red Ticket costs 2 AED plus fare (about 4 to 8.50 AED per trip). If you will ride more than a couple of times, get the reusable Silver Nol card (25 AED including credit), which charges lower fares and caps daily spend around 14 AED.
Taxi scams & safety in Dubai
Dubai taxis are low-risk: use the official cream-coloured RTA taxis from the marked airport rank, and insist the driver runs the meter, they almost always do. Fares are regulated, with a set airport starting charge. Careem and Uber also work well from DXB using the designated app pickup zones. Avoid unofficial drivers who approach you inside the terminal offering a flat price, and if a meter is mysteriously off or broken, take the next official cab instead.
Step-free access in Dubai
The metro is the strong option here, and it is worth knowing that before you join a taxi queue.
- Red Line metro is fully step-free. The Terminal 1 and Terminal 3 stations have lifts to the ticketing, departures and arrivals levels, every station is wheelchair accessible, and trains carry designated wheelchair spaces with marked priority seating.
- Tactile guidance paths run through the stations for visually impaired passengers.
- Wheelchair accessible taxis can be requested at the airport, but the wait can be up to an hour. If you need one, request it early rather than on arrival at the rank — or take the metro, which needs no booking at all.
