Singapore Changi is one of the world's busiest and best-loved airports, about 20 km east of the centre across four terminals plus the Jewel complex. The driverless MRT East-West Line runs from beneath Terminals 2/3 to downtown for under €2 (change at Tanah Merah), metered taxis and Grab reach Marina Bay in 25–35 minutes, and there's one direct city bus. Buying tickets in Singapore
The MRT runs from Changi (Terminals 2 and 3) into the city, with fares from under S$1 to about S$2.75 by distance. Simplest option: tap in and out at the gates with any contactless Visa/Mastercard or phone wallet under SimplyGo (foreign cards add a S$0.60 daily admin fee). Alternatively buy a SimplyGo EZ-Link card or the Singapore Tourist Pass (unlimited rides, from S$17 for one day) at the TransitLink/SimplyGo office inside the Changi MRT station.
Taxi scams & safety in Singapore
Singapore is one of the safest airports for ground transport, with little of the tout culture seen elsewhere. Taxis are honestly metered — join the clearly signed taxi queue outside arrivals and the driver will run the meter plus the standard airport surcharge, no negotiation needed. Grab and other apps are fully legal; book in-app and head to the marked pickup point. Ignore anyone inside the terminal offering a private "limousine" at an inflated flat rate.
Step-free access in Singapore
Singapore is about as good as this gets, and you can travel independently without arranging anything in advance.
- Every one of the 159 MRT and LRT stations has a barrier-free route from a station entrance through to the platform, using lifts, ramps and tactile guidance. Wide fare gates are fitted for wheelchair users.
- Newer and upgraded trains carry at least two dedicated wheelchair bays each.
- At Changi itself, all terminals have barrier-free access, lifts and accessible toilets, and wheelchair assistance is free.
