Tan Son Nhat International Airport ground transport

Tan Son Nhat is Vietnam's busiest airport, wedged inside the city in Tan Binh district only about 7 km from the Ben Thanh landmark. That closeness is deceptive: the surrounding streets clog badly at peak hours, so a taxi that would take 15 minutes at midnight can need 40 at 6pm. Cheapest into town is the public bus — the air-conditioned, English-signed route 109 to District 1 (roughly 8,000-15,000 VND, well under €1, every 15-20 min from ~05:30 to ~01:30), or the bare-bones route 152 (5,000 VND) via Ben Thanh toward the southern suburbs. For door-to-door travel most visitors use ride-hail apps — Grab, the local Be, or the electric Xanh SM — which are metered by the app and collect from the designated lanes D1-D2 on the ground floor (a recent move down from the old car-park floors). Metered street taxis from Vinasun (white cars) and Mai Linh (green) queue at the official rank outside arrivals; a small airport surcharge applies. Pre-booked private transfers cost more but fix the price and track your flight. Note that Metro Line 1 opened in late 2024 but runs Ben Thanh–Suoi Tien and does not serve the airport.
