Diagoras airport is on the wrong side of the island for most of the resorts, and understanding that saves money. It sits on the flat west coast where the wind blows, while the hotels, the medieval city and Lindos are strung down the sheltered east coast — so almost every arrival crosses the island. Rhodes Town is closest at 14 km and the KTEL bus does it for about €3 in half an hour; the stop is outside the arrivals terminal on the right. That same network runs a direct airport–Faliraki service through the summer, which is the one route that skips the change in town. For everywhere else on the east coast — Kolymbia, Afandou, Lindos, Pefkos — you either ride into Rhodes Town and change at the KTEL station, or take a car. Note the two-operator split: RODA runs the blue urban buses around Rhodes Town itself, KTEL the intercity network, and a RODA ticket is no use on a KTEL coach. Taxis queue directly outside arrivals and run on a published tariff, roughly €27–29 into town by day, with Lindos priced as a fixed fare near €75 because of the distance. Pre-booked transfers are heavily used by the charter market, which is most of the traffic here between May and October. Car hire matters more on Rhodes than on smaller islands: the interior villages, the Valley of the Butterflies, Kamiros and Monolithos are all poorly served by bus, and the island is big enough that a day's driving genuinely covers ground.
