Buying tickets in Rhodes
Rhodes has no rail and two separate bus companies, which is the thing to get straight on day one. KTEL runs the green intercity coaches covering the island — the airport line into Rhodes Town (about €3), the seasonal direct service to Faliraki, and the east-coast route to Lindos (roughly €5.50 onward from town). RODA runs the blue urban buses in and around Rhodes Town only. A KTEL ticket buys you nothing on a RODA bus and the two use different stands at the Averof terminal. Pay the driver or the kiosk in cash; there is no island travel card. The airport stop is outside the arrivals terminal to the right, and services thin out considerably in the evening.
Taxi scams & safety in Rhodes
Rhodes taxis work to a published tariff rather than negotiation, which removes most of the usual friction — reckon on €27–29 into Rhodes Town on the daytime rate and a fixed fare near €75 for Lindos. Two legitimate charges catch people out and are not scams: the night tariff, and the fixed pricing on long runs like Lindos and Pefkos. Use the rank outside arrivals rather than accepting an approach inside the hall. The genuine risk here is car hire: photograph the vehicle from every angle before leaving the lot, read what the excess actually is, and be wary of a very low headline rate attached to a large deposit. One practical point rather than a safety one — no vehicle enters Rhodes Old Town or Lindos village, so every journey to either ends on foot over cobbles.
Getting from RHO to Pefkos
Fifty-five kilometres, an hour and ten minutes, and the furthest popular destination from Rhodes airport. Pefkos sits just south of Lindos on the east coast, and everything about getting here is a longer version of getting to Lindos — including the fact that no bus comes close without two changes, and that the taxi is priced as a fixed fare rather than a meter because of the distance.
Eighty to ninety-five euros, agreed before you load
The rank quotes Pefkos as a fixed price, a little above Lindos since it lies a few kilometres further along. Settle the figure before the boot opens — Rhodes drivers work to published tariffs so there is nothing adversarial about it, but on a fare this size you want it said out loud. An hour and ten down the east coast, most of it on a good road with the sea on your left. Name the hotel: Pefkos climbs a hillside behind its beaches and the upper streets are steep enough that being dropped at the wrong end is a real inconvenience.
The bus route needs two changes and finishes early

Why people choose Pefkos over Lindos
The obvious question, given Lindos is the famous one. Pefkos is what Lindos is not: low-rise, uncrowded, built for staying rather than visiting. It has three sandy coves, a straightforward strip of tavernas and bars, apartments rather than boutique hotels, and no day-trip coaches disgorging passengers at eleven in the morning. Lindos is fifteen minutes up the road for the acropolis and the photographs, and you come back to somewhere quiet. For a lot of returning visitors that trade is the whole point.
Book the return leg on the same day you book the outbound
The single most useful thing on this page. Pefkos is over an hour from the airport and Rhodes departures cluster early — many northern European charters leave between six and nine in the morning, before any coach on this coast has started running. Arranging the return transfer when you book the arrival costs no more and spares you a scramble on your last evening. Transfer firms quote €75 to €95 for the car, level with the fixed taxi rate.
The far south is where a car pays for itself
Hire runs €25 to €55 daily. Down at this end of the island the bus network is genuinely sparse outside July and August, and the things worth seeing are spread out: Prasonisi at the southern tip where the Aegean meets the Mediterranean, Monolithos castle on the west coast, the empty beaches below Gennadi and Lachania. None of them has a useful service. Parking in Pefkos itself is on-street and tight in August, but everywhere else you go will have space.
What the resort does not have
Worth saying plainly. There is no bank of shops, no large supermarket, no nightlife beyond a handful of bars, and the medical and practical infrastructure is in Lindos or Archangelos. That suits people who want quiet and frustrates people who expected a resort. Combined with an hour's drive to the airport, it makes Pefkos a place to settle into for a week rather than a base for constant excursions — unless you have hired a car, in which case it works as both.
The honest summary: €80–95 fixed fare is what nearly everyone pays, and it is fair for fifty-five kilometres. The ten-euro bus route exists and works only in daylight with light bags. Whatever you choose, sort the journey home at the same time.
