Corfu International Airport ground transport

Corfu's airport is almost in the town, which fools people into thinking the island is small. The runway sits on the lagoon three kilometres from the old fortress, so a taxi into Kerkyra costs about €15 and the blue line 15 bus does it for €1.70. Then you look at where the resorts actually are: Kavos at the far southern tip is 47 km away, Sidari and Acharavi on the north coast around 37 km, Paleokastritsa 25 km over the mountain spine. The island is sixty kilometres long and the roads are not fast. Two bus systems cover this and mixing them up is the classic mistake. The blue buses are the urban network around Corfu Town and one of them, line 15, serves the airport for a flat fare, cash to the driver with exact change preferred. The green KTEL coaches are the intercity network that actually reaches the resorts — Sidari, Kavos, Kassiopi, Paleokastritsa — and they do not call at the airport at all. They leave from the KTEL terminal in town, which means a blue bus in first, a separate ticket, then a green coach out. That works and costs very little (Kavos is around €5.30) but it takes the best part of a morning with luggage. Taxis outside arrivals use fixed rates rather than a meter for the common runs, and pre-booked transfers price against them. Car hire is heavily used because the north and west coasts — Paleokastritsa's bays, the Angelokastro road, Agios Gordios — reward driving and the green coaches run to a sparse timetable outside July and August.
