HKT handled about 17.2 million passengers in 2024, Thailand's third-busiest airport, with a T1 international terminal and the adjacent T2 domestic terminal. Because the island is long and the airport sits at the top, most beach resorts are a 40-70 minute drive south. The best-value public option is the Phuket Smart Bus, a flat 100 THB (~€3) to any stop as it runs the west coast — Bang Tao, Kamala, Patong, Karon, Kata and on to Rawai — leaving hourly from the Domestic Terminal but only until roughly 17:30, so it's no use for evening landings. A separate orange Airport Bus heads inland to Phuket Town and Central Festival, also 100 THB, taking about 90 minutes. For door-to-door travel there's the metered taxi rank and the coupon desks inside arrivals (honest warning: those desks add a fixed 'airport' markup, so a 600 THB run can be quoted at 800-1,000 THB), plus Grab, Bolt and inDrive ride-hailing — Grab has an approved pickup point, the others make you walk to the gate. Shared minibuses sell single seats at 150-200 THB per person but wait to fill and drop everyone in turn. Pre-booked private transfers lock the fare before you land, and several desks rent cars if you want to drive the island yourself.
