Buying tickets in Phuket
The Phuket Smart Bus is the cheapest way south to Patong, Karon, Kata and Rawai — a flat 100 baht whatever your stop. Board at the domestic terminal: exit Gate 3, walk past the Amazon Cafe, and the stop is opposite. Buses leave roughly hourly from about 08:15 to 23:30. Pay the driver in cash with small notes, scan the QR with PromptPay, or tap a contactless Visa/Mastercard. A refillable Rabbit Card is sold onboard for 300 baht.
Taxi scams & safety in Phuket
Phuket airport taxis are notoriously pricey, so agree the number before you get in — expect roughly 700-800 baht to Patong. Use the official taxi and limousine desks in the arrivals hall and take a queue ticket rather than following a freelancer across the car park. Legal metered taxis carry yellow-and-green plates; be wary of unmarked cars quoting a "cheap" flat rate. Metered fares should start on the meter, and Grab is usually cheaper than the counter cars.
Step-free access in Phuket
Phuket's operator, Airports of Thailand, runs a free wheelchair service in both terminals. It says nothing about accessible buses into town.
