The teal Karwa taxis (operated by Mowasalat) are the only vehicles permitted to pick up from the arrivals kerb; they run on a meter with a QR25 airport pickup charge and a QR10 surcharge from 22:00-06:00, so central Doha lands around QR40-70. Uber operates in Qatar but must collect from the designated ride-hail area rather than arrivals — Careem shut its Qatar service in 2023, so it is no longer an option. Buying tickets in Doha
Doha Metro's Red Line connects Hamad International Airport (DOH) directly to the city centre. Buy a Travel Card from the ticket vending machines at the station: the Standard card costs around 10 QR to purchase, then you top up credit onto it. A standard ride is about 2 QR, capped near 6 QR a day however many trips you take. Tap in and out at the gates. Taxi scams & safety in Doha
Doha's Karwa taxis (the turquoise official cabs) are metered and generally honest: take one from the airport rank and check the meter is on. Fares are regulated with a fixed airport starting charge, so overcharging is uncommon. Uber and Careem also work from DOH with an upfront app price, handy at night. As anywhere, avoid drivers who approach you in the arrivals hall offering a flat cash fare, and choose the official queue where the meter is used instead.
