Barcelona–El Prat Airport ground transport
Josep Tarradellas Barcelona–El Prat is Spain's second-busiest airport, about 15 km southwest of the city across two terminals (T1 and T2, linked by a free 24-hour shuttle). The Aerobús runs a fast coach to Plaça Catalunya from both terminals, the Rodalies R2 Nord train serves T2 (free shuttle from T1), and the L9 Sud metro has direct stations at both terminals on a special airport ticket. Step-free access in Barcelona
Barcelona is one of the better European airports for step-free arrival, largely because the metro line built to serve it was designed for it.
- Metro L9 Sud serves both T1 and T2 and every one of its stations has lifts, with carriage doors flush to the platform — no gap and no step. It is the most reliable step-free route out of the airport.
- Aerobús carries wheelchairs, pushchairs and oversized luggage, with a dedicated space on board.
- R2 Nord train runs from the Aeroport station to Barcelona-Sants and the centre; note that it serves Terminal 2, so from T1 you first need the free shuttle bus between terminals.
Nearly all metro stations and buses in the city are wheelchair accessible, so onward connections are rarely the obstacle.
