Kraków John Paul II International Airport ground transportation
Kraków John Paul II International Airport sits in Balice, just outside the city's western boundary, and handled 13.2 million passengers in 2025 according to the airport's own monthly statistics. Road distance to the Main Market Square is about 16 km; the drive is usually 25–35 minutes, longer in the weekday rush on the approach roads.
The quickest public link is the Koleje Małopolskie SKA1 train. The station stands behind the multi-storey car park and is reached from the terminal by a covered footbridge. Trains leave at :17 and :47 past the hour for most of the day and take 17 minutes to Kraków Główny, the main station beside Galeria Krakowska. Every Kraków-named stop costs 20 PLN from the airport, including Grzegórzki (for Kazimierz) and Zabłocie (for Schindler's Factory). Many trains continue to Wieliczka Rynek-Kopalnia, a few minutes' walk from the salt mine, for 24 PLN. Late flights are covered too: departures at 00:07, 00:57 and 01:47 run to the main station.
The cheapest option is MPK bus line 300, which leaves the stop in front of the terminal every 10 minutes from early morning until late evening and makes only a handful of stops before Muzeum Narodowe (19 minutes) and Rondo Grunwaldzkie (24 minutes). A 30-minute or single ticket costs 6 PLN. Night bus 902 covers the small hours and ends at Dworzec Główny Wschód.
The only official taxi operator at the terminal is Kraków Airport Taxi, run by MPL Services. Fares are fixed by distance zone, from 29 PLN to 169 PLN for up to 27 km, and do not change with time of day or day of week. Longer trips, such as Auschwitz, Zakopane or Katowice, are agreed with the driver beforehand and capped at 8 PLN per kilometre. Card payment is accepted in every car.
Long-distance coaches use central bus shelter number 2 by the terminal footbridge. FlixBus runs straight from the airport to Zakopane and to Katowice, and RegioJet and other operators continue towards Silesia, the Czech Republic and Ukraine. For Auschwitz-Birkenau and Energylandia, the usual public route is SKA1 to Kraków Główny, then a Koleje Małopolskie train towards Oświęcim. Bear in mind that the airport's left-luggage lockers are currently out of service, so plan bag storage before any day trip that starts straight from arrivals.

Taxi scams & safety in Kraków
Kraków Airport Taxi (MPL Services) is the only official taxi service at the airport. Its cars wait at the covered rank right outside the terminal, 24 hours a day. They are black or silver (white if electric), and every car has a card terminal. The zone fares are fixed maximums by distance from the airport: 29 PLN up to 2.9 km, 49, 69, 89, 109 and 129 PLN up to 18.9 km, 149 PLN up to 22.9 km and 169 PLN up to 27 km. They are the same at any hour and on any day. For anything beyond 27 km, agree the price with the driver before you set off; it must not exceed 8 PLN per km. A second drop-off is charged on the meter, and waiting costs 35 PLN per hour.
The zone map is published only as an illustration. Most Old Town and Kazimierz addresses fall into the 109–129 PLN bands, so if a driver quotes much more for a city address, ask which zone he is using. Turn down anyone in the arrivals hall offering a ride who is not part of the official rank or a transfer you booked in advance. To book by phone, call +48 12 258 0 258 or +48 668 307 307 (call centre open 06:00–22:00).
