Kraków John Paul II International Airport to City Centre (Main Market Square / Kraków Główny)
The Main Market Square is about 16 km from Kraków Airport. Bus 300 is cheapest at 6 PLN. The SKA1 train takes 17 minutes to Kraków Główny for 20 PLN, and an official taxi costs roughly 109–129 PLN.

Kraków keeps the airport run simple. A train from beside the terminal reaches the main station in 17 minutes, an express bus covers much the same ground for a third of the price, and the official taxis charge fixed zone fares rather than running the meter. The real decision is between the train and the bus, and it mostly comes down to where your bed is.

Buying tickets in Kraków
Train (SKA1, Koleje Małopolskie): 20 PLN to any station named Kraków (Główny, Grzegórzki, Zabłocie, Płaszów and others), 24 PLN to Wieliczka Rynek-Kopalnia. Luggage travels free; dogs cost 3 PLN. You can buy tickets from the ticket machine on board (cash or card), from the conductor (cash or card), at the Koleje Małopolskie ticket point at the airport (08:10–19:45, cash and card), on the Koleje Małopolskie website, or through the KOLEO and Jakdojade apps.
City and agglomeration buses (lines 209, 300, night 902): buy your ticket before you board, either from the machine in the arrivals hall on level 0 or from the machine at the bus stop (cash or card). Since 2 March 2026 the main fares are 4 PLN for 15 minutes, 6 PLN for a single trip or 30 minutes, 8 PLN for 60 minutes and 9 PLN for 90 minutes. A 24-hour ticket for zone I+II+III costs 25 PLN. Validate your ticket in the reader as soon as you board. Reduced fares are half price, but they apply only to people entitled to them under Polish rules.
Long-distance coaches (FlixBus, RegioJet, Neobus and others) leave from bus shelter 2 near the terminal footbridge. Book with the operator; prices change with demand.
Taxi scams & safety in Kraków
Kraków Airport Taxi (MPL Services) is the only official taxi service at the airport. Its cars wait at the covered rank right outside the terminal, 24 hours a day. They are black or silver (white if electric), and every car has a card terminal. The zone fares are fixed maximums by distance from the airport: 29 PLN up to 2.9 km, 49, 69, 89, 109 and 129 PLN up to 18.9 km, 149 PLN up to 22.9 km and 169 PLN up to 27 km. They are the same at any hour and on any day. For anything beyond 27 km, agree the price with the driver before you set off; it must not exceed 8 PLN per km. A second drop-off is charged on the meter, and waiting costs 35 PLN per hour.
The zone map is published only as an illustration. Most Old Town and Kazimierz addresses fall into the 109–129 PLN bands, so if a driver quotes much more for a city address, ask which zone he is using. Turn down anyone in the arrivals hall offering a ride who is not part of the official rank or a transfer you booked in advance. To book by phone, call +48 12 258 0 258 or +48 668 307 307 (call centre open 06:00–22:00).

Getting from KRK to City Centre (Main Market Square / Kraków Główny)
Three ways in, ranked by cost
The figures first, so the rest makes sense. Bus 300 costs 6 PLN and takes 19 minutes to Muzeum Narodowe, on the western edge of the Old Town. The SKA1 train costs 20 PLN and takes 17 minutes to Kraków Główny, on the north-eastern edge. A Kraków Airport Taxi costs a fixed 109 or 129 PLN to most Old Town addresses, depending on which distance zone your street falls in, and takes about 25–35 minutes. Every other option, including the pre-booked transfers, falls somewhere among these three.
The Main Market Square sits roughly halfway between the bus stop and the station. From either one it is about a ten-minute walk, through the Planty park ring or along the old streets.
SKA1: the train behind the car park
The airport station stands behind the multi-storey car park, connected to the terminal by a covered footbridge. Follow the train pictograms from arrivals. Koleje Małopolskie runs the line, and the autumn 2026 timetable has departures at 17 and 47 minutes past the hour from 06:17 until 21:47. Before that there are trains at 04:17 and 05:17, and after it at 22:17 and 23:17, then three late runs at 00:07, 00:57 and 01:47 that stop at Kraków Główny. That late service is the line's most useful feature for anyone landing on a delayed evening flight.
You can buy a ticket from the machine on the train, which takes cash or card, or from the conductor. The Koleje Małopolskie desk at the airport is staffed 08:10–19:45, and the KOLEO and Jakdojade apps also sell tickets. The fare is 20 PLN to any station with Kraków in its name, and suitcases travel free. The intermediate stops (Olszanica, Zakliki, Młynówka, Bronowice, Łobzów) are mostly suburban, so for the centre stay on to Główny. From the platforms, walk through Galeria Krakowska or the station square towards Basztowa, cross into the Planty and go down Floriańska. The square is at the bottom.
Bus 300 for six złoty
Line 300 is the express agglomeration bus, and it is the cheapest way in. It leaves the stop directly in front of the terminal every ten minutes from 06:00 to 23:10, with earlier runs at 04:33, 05:00, 05:30 and 05:45 and a last bus at 23:42. It makes only a few stops (Olszanica Bory, Leśmiana, Chełm, Panieńskich Skał), then Muzeum Narodowe at about 19 minutes, Jubilat, Konopnickiej and Rondo Grunwaldzkie at about 24 minutes, before ending at Os. Podwawelskie.
Buy your ticket before boarding, from the machine in the arrivals hall on level 0 or the one at the stop. Both take cards. A 6 PLN single or 30-minute ticket covers the ride. If you plan to switch to a tram afterwards, the 60-minute ticket at 8 PLN is the safer buy. Validate it in the reader as you board, because inspectors do check and fines are steep. Get off at Muzeum Narodowe, and the square is about a kilometre east along Piłsudskiego or Retoryka and Franciszkańska. That walk is fine with a backpack and tiresome with a large wheeled case on the cobbles.
The fixed-fare taxi, and where the zones fall
Kraków Airport Taxi, run by MPL Services, is the only official taxi service at the terminal. Its cars wait under a covered rank outside the door around the clock. Fares go by distance zone: 109 PLN for 12–14.9 km and 129 PLN for 15–18.9 km. On the operator's own illustrative map, the Market Square sits right on that boundary, and the main station and Kazimierz fall in the 129 PLN band. The price does not change at night, at weekends or in traffic. Cards are accepted, which makes it the obvious choice for three or four people: split four ways, 129 PLN costs less per head than four train tickets.
Be aware that much of the Old Town is closed to general traffic, so a taxi may drop you at the nearest permitted point rather than outside your door.
Booking ahead
The case for a pre-booked car here is the price lock. Suntransfers listed a private car from about 35.59 EUR (roughly 155 PLN) on 21 October 2026, and Kiwitaxi was nearer 240 PLN. That is more than the airport taxi, so a pre-booked car only makes sense if you want the price fixed before you fly, need a child seat, or are travelling as a group of five or more and need a minivan. Suntransfers also sells a shared shuttle at about 18 EUR a seat. It makes several drops on the way, and for one person it costs more than the bus while taking longer.
Arriving after dark
Until about 01:47 you have the train, and until 23:42 bus 300. Between those, night bus 902 leaves the terminal stop at 23:21, 00:16, 01:16, 02:16, 03:16, 03:51 and 04:51 and runs to Dworzec Główny Wschód in about 32 minutes. On the way it stops at Teatr Bagatela and Teatr Słowackiego, both on the Planty ring, close to the Old Town. Normal fares apply. If you land at 02:30 with heavy bags, the 129 PLN taxi saves you walking the last stretch through empty streets.
Which one to pick
- Travelling solo or as a couple with hand luggage, staying west of the square or near Wawel: take bus 300.
- Staying near the station, on Floriańska or in Kleparz, or arriving after 23:45: take the SKA1 train.
- Three or four people, heavy bags, or a hotel inside the pedestrian zone: take the airport taxi at its fixed fare.
