Munich Airport has two terminals (T1 for most airlines, T2 for Lufthansa and Star Alliance) joined by the München Airport Center (MAC), and the S-Bahn station sits directly beneath the MAC between them. Two S-Bahn lines serve the airport: the S8 loops in via the east (Marienplatz in ~38 min) and the S1 via the west (Hauptbahnhof in ~45 min); they alternate so a train leaves roughly every 10 minutes from ~04:00 to past midnight. A single MVV ticket for the whole airport-to-city stretch is about €13-15, but the Airport-City-Day-Ticket (~€17.50) is usually better value as it also covers city trams, buses and U-Bahn for the rest of the day. The Lufthansa Express Bus (open to anyone, not just Lufthansa passengers) runs from both terminals straight to the Hauptbahnhof north side for about €13 in 45-60 min depending on the A9 motorway. Taxis from the ranks outside arrivals run roughly €80-105 to central districts, and pre-booked private transfers offer a fixed fare with flight tracking. For the mountains and neighbouring cities — Garmisch-Partenkirchen, Salzburg, Innsbruck, Füssen (for Neuschwanstein) and Nuremberg — the usual pattern is an S-Bahn or regional train to Munich Hauptbahnhof, then an onward DB or ÖBB service, though direct transfers and car hire suit groups and awkward luggage.
