Bali Ngurah Rai International Airport ground transport

DPS has one International and one Domestic terminal side by side, each with its own arrivals hall and an official taxi desk just outside it. Bali has no train, metro or tram, so ground transport is entirely road-based and the state of the traffic matters more than the kilometres — the airport-to-Kuta hop is barely 4 km yet can take 15 minutes or 40. The official airport taxi counter posts fixed per-vehicle fares by zone (roughly IDR 200,000/~€12 to Kuta, 300,000/~€18 to Seminyak, Sanur or Nusa Dua, 400,000–450,000/~€24–26 up to Ubud); no meter runs and there's no haggling at the desk. Grab and Gojek are the budget favourites — often half the counter price — but their drivers can't collect from the arrivals kerb: you use the marked ride-hail lounge/pickup point or walk a few hundred metres to the road, and an airport surcharge of about 30% applies. Pre-booked private transfers meet you inside arrivals at a fixed price with your flight tracked; the Kura-Kura brand runs both a fixed-price airport car (which throws in a multi-day island bus pass) and its wider shuttle-bus lines around the south. Self-drive rentals are collected at desks in the terminal, but remember Bali drives on the left and an International Driving Permit is expected. This guide compares price, time and frequency for the eight destinations travellers ask about most.

Getting around

Step-free access in Denpasar

The airport is equipped, but Bali's roads are the real constraint on this journey.

  • Ngurah Rai has lifts, accessible toilets, dedicated parking and wheelchair assistance, plus dedicated check-in counters and priority boarding. Request assistance when booking your flight or through your airline.
  • There is no rail link. Every route out of the airport is by road.

Pavements and kerbs across the resort areas are uneven and often obstructed, so a pre-booked accessible vehicle with a driver is generally the workable option rather than a standard taxi hailed at the rank.
