Buying tickets in İstanbul
At Istanbul Airport go down to the public-transport floor (level -2) and buy an İstanbulkart from the yellow Biletmatik machines. The machine charges a one-off card fee (shown on screen; it has risen with the 2026 fare increases) and anything you pay above it loads as credit, so you can ride straight away. Tap it on the M11 metro to Gayrettepe (a distance-based fare, 37.40–73.19 TL full fare since July 2026) or on Havaist shuttle buses (470 TL to Taksim or Sultanahmet, 515 TL to Kadıköy). One card works for the whole family by tapping per person. The machines take cash and contactless cards; Havaist coaches also accept bank cards on board.
Taxi scams & safety in İstanbul
The airport is far from the centre, so taxi overcharging is the big issue. Everyone frets about İstanbul distances, but Beylikdüzü is one of the easier suburbs to reach from the new airport. It sits roughly 42 km away, and because both are on the European side you're not dragging your suitcase across the Bosphorus or through the historic-peninsula traffic that swallows people whole. On a decent run it's about 45 minutes, straight down the motorway. The one problem, and there's always a catch out here — is that there is no rail link of any kind. No metro, no airport train, nothing. So your choice really comes down to how much you're willing to pay to skip the faff.
The pay-and-forget-about-it option
If you're landing jet-lagged and can't face problem-solving, book a private transfer before you land. Operators like Kiwitaxi and Transfeero run these 24/7, the price is fixed in advance (roughly €28–45), and the driver watches for your flight and waits, however late it gets in. Door to door, no meter anxiety, no explaining your neighbourhood to anyone. Figure on about 50 minutes. For a suburb this far out with no rail to fall back on, it's the least stressful way to arrive, and plenty of visitors who tried to be clever end up wishing they hadn't.

The Metrobüs is the great equaliser out here — it's the closest thing Beylikdüzü has to a metro, it runs very frequently, and the whole journey costs a trifling €9–10. That's the appeal. The price you pay is time and elbows: budget around 95 minutes all told, and be warned the Metrobüs at a busy hour is a full-contact sport, packed to the doors, with your suitcase very much your own problem. Do it in daylight, keep your bag in front of you, and treat it as part of the adventure rather than a shortcut. It is emphatically the public fallback, not a luxury.
When hiring your own car actually makes sense
Because Beylikdüzü lives and breathes the motorway, a hire car is a more sensible idea here than in the tangled old centre. You'd be driving straight out on the E-5/TEM, the same fast roads the taxis use, and unlike downtown İstanbul there's proper parking at the malls and residential blocks out this way. If you're planning to explore the western coast or you simply prefer your own wheels, this suburb is one of the few parts of the city where I'd actually recommend it.
