Copenhagen Airport to Roskilde

If you are three or four people with a mountain of gear, a taxi from the rank outside Terminal 3 makes more sense than it does any other week of the year. If your plan takes in the wider Zealand countryside and the fjord beyond the town — Lejre, Frederikssund, the coastline — a car from the Avis, Hertz, Europcar, or Sixt desks in Terminal 3 turns Roskilde into a base rather than a destination. Reckon on roughly €40–75 a day plus parking, which in the compact old town is worth checking before you commit.

For a straightforward visit to the cathedral and the Viking ships, walk down to the airport station, catch the next DSB train, and you will be standing under the cathedral spires inside an hour of stepping off the plane. Keep the taxi and hire-car options in reserve for festival week or a wider Zealand itinerary — the rest of the year, the train is the whole answer.
