Before you ride

Buying tickets in Arrecife

Intercity Bus Lanzarote tickets are bought on board from the driver. There are no ticket machines at the airport stops. The operator asks you to pay the exact fare or use a note of no more than €10. Bank cards are accepted only when the on-board terminal is working, and a 2026 travel guide reports that contactless cards have not been accepted since December 2025, so carry coins. The operator does not publish a fare table online. Guides quote about €1.40 for short trips (Arrecife, Puerto del Carmen) and about €3.30 to Playa Blanca.

The Bono General rechargeable card costs €2, takes top-ups of €5–50 and gives 10% off each fare. It is not personalised and can pay for several passengers on the same trip. It is sold on board and at the offices in Arrecife bus station, Playa Blanca bus station and the Arrecife Intercambiador. Children under four travel free if they do not occupy a seat. Suitcases go in the luggage hold where the bus has one, and the driver decides what can be carried inside.

Arrive safe

Taxi scams & safety in Arrecife

Use only the official taxi rank outside Terminal 1 arrivals. Aena advises passengers to avoid drivers offering rides elsewhere in the terminal and to ask for a receipt if they want to make a complaint. Lanzarote taxis are metered, with no fixed airport fares. The approved tariff Aena publishes (BOC no. 59, 24 March 2023) is:

  • Tariff 1 (weekdays 06:00–22:00): €3.85 minimum, €1.35/km
  • Tariff 2 (nights 22:00–06:00, Sundays and holidays): €4.25 minimum, €1.55/km
  • €2.10 supplement for trips to or from the airport or port; waiting time €18.50/hour
  • Christmas nights (24 and 31 Dec, 5 Jan, 22:00–24:00): €6.54 minimum

Check that the meter is running and showing the right tariff for the day and time. Prices quoted online for pre-booked transfers are per vehicle, not per person, and are often higher than the meter for short trips such as Arrecife or Playa Honda.

Getting from ACE to Órzola (La Graciosa ferry port)

Why people come here straight from a plane

Órzola is a fishing village at the island's northern tip. Almost nobody stays there. People go to Órzola to catch a boat, because the harbour is where the ferries leave for La Graciosa, the small, car-free island across the strait with sand streets in Caleta de Sebo. If your plan is to land at Lanzarote airport and sleep on La Graciosa the same night, this page is mainly about timing. The road part is easy: about 42 km, some 45 minutes by car up the LZ-1 past Tahiche, Guatiza and Arrieta. The hard part is making the bus and boat connections line up.

The bus chain: 22 or 23, then 9

No airport bus goes north. You ride into Arrecife and change.

From the airport. On weekdays, line 22 leaves Terminal 1 every 40–50 minutes (05:45 to 23:35) and reaches the Intercambiador, Arrecife's interchange, in about 9 minutes. On weekends and holidays, line 23 leaves at 17 minutes past each hour (07:17 to 22:17) and takes about 22 minutes to the Intercambiador, because it loops through Playa Honda first.

Line 9 to Órzola. It starts at Arrecife bus station and calls at the Intercambiador six minutes later, so you can board there. From the Intercambiador, weekday departures are about 07:26, 10:21, 11:36, 15:36 and 17:06. At weekends there are four, at about 07:36, 10:21, 15:36 and 17:06. The ride takes 50–60 minutes, reaching Muelle de Órzola at about 08:26, 11:09, 12:24, 16:24 and 17:54 (weekends: 08:24, 11:09, 16:24, 17:54). Some runs stop at Jameos del Agua on the way and some do not. The operator lists the exceptions.

That is only four or five buses a day, with a long gap at midday. Look up line 9 before you land, then work back to the airport bus.

Lining up the boat

Two companies run Órzola–La Graciosa. The standard adult fare is the same at both: €16 one way and €29 return for non-residents.

  • Biosfera Express lists sailings from Órzola at 08:00, 09:00, 10:30, 11:30, 13:00, 16:30, 17:30, 18:30 and 19:30. The crossing takes about 25 minutes, and luggage and sports gear travel free.
  • Líneas Romero lists 08:30, 10:00, 11:00, 12:00, 13:30, 16:00, 17:00 and 18:00 all year, plus a 19:00 until 26 October and a 20:00 until 25 October.

Matched against the bus: the 11:09 arrival leaves time for the 11:30 Biosfera or the 12:00 Romero. The 12:24 arrival fits the 13:00 or 13:30. The 16:24 arrival makes the 17:00 Romero comfortably. The 17:54 arrival leaves only minutes for an 18:00 boat, so plan on the 18:30. Bus times are scheduled, not guaranteed, so do not book the tightest connection.

Bus fares

The operator does not publish fares. Travel guides say Lanzarote singles start at €1.40 and top out at around €4 on the longest routes. Expect two fares, with line 9 the more expensive of the two. Pay each driver in coins or with a note of up to €10. Suitcases go in the hold where there is one.

Taxi: the time-saver for groups

With a boat to catch, the taxi's advantage is that it leaves when you are ready. Using the official rates, reckon on about €62–63 for the 42 km from the Terminal 1 rank in weekday daytime, or about €71 at night, on Sundays and on holidays. Shared by four people that is around €16–18 each, about the same as one ferry ticket, and it lets you choose from the whole ferry timetable instead of only a few connections. Take cars only from the marked rank, as Aena advises.

Pre-booked transfer

Suntransfers lists private cars to Órzola from about €94 for up to four and about €133 for a minivan of up to eight. That is more than the meter. The advantage is that the driver can be told your ferry time and plan around it. For a dawn arrival or a group with dive gear, that may justify the extra cost.

Before you set off

  • Ferry operators can change sailings at short notice in bad weather, so check the day's timetable with the company.
  • Vehicles cannot go to La Graciosa (Biosfera states this outright), so do not hire a car just for this trip.
  • Returning, the last line 9 leaves Órzola at 18:10. A late-afternoon boat back from La Graciosa therefore needs to arrive before then if you are relying on the bus to the airport.
