Before you ride

Buying tickets in Arrecife

Intercity Bus Lanzarote tickets are bought on board from the driver. There are no ticket machines at the airport stops. The operator asks you to pay the exact fare or use a note of no more than €10. Bank cards are accepted only when the on-board terminal is working, and a 2026 travel guide reports that contactless cards have not been accepted since December 2025, so carry coins. The operator does not publish a fare table online. Guides quote about €1.40 for short trips (Arrecife, Puerto del Carmen) and about €3.30 to Playa Blanca.

The Bono General rechargeable card costs €2, takes top-ups of €5–50 and gives 10% off each fare. It is not personalised and can pay for several passengers on the same trip. It is sold on board and at the offices in Arrecife bus station, Playa Blanca bus station and the Arrecife Intercambiador. Children under four travel free if they do not occupy a seat. Suitcases go in the luggage hold where the bus has one, and the driver decides what can be carried inside.

Arrive safe

Taxi scams & safety in Arrecife

Use only the official taxi rank outside Terminal 1 arrivals. Aena advises passengers to avoid drivers offering rides elsewhere in the terminal and to ask for a receipt if they want to make a complaint. Lanzarote taxis are metered, with no fixed airport fares. The approved tariff Aena publishes (BOC no. 59, 24 March 2023) is:

  • Tariff 1 (weekdays 06:00–22:00): €3.85 minimum, €1.35/km
  • Tariff 2 (nights 22:00–06:00, Sundays and holidays): €4.25 minimum, €1.55/km
  • €2.10 supplement for trips to or from the airport or port; waiting time €18.50/hour
  • Christmas nights (24 and 31 Dec, 5 Jan, 22:00–24:00): €6.54 minimum

Check that the meter is running and showing the right tariff for the day and time. Prices quoted online for pre-booked transfers are per vehicle, not per person, and are often higher than the meter for short trips such as Arrecife or Playa Honda.

Getting from ACE to Costa Teguise

Close, but not on the airport bus map

Costa Teguise is on the east coast, north of Arrecife. Windsurfers know it for the steady trade winds at Las Cucharas, and families for the sheltered coves around Playa Bastián. By road it is only about 14 km from the terminal, around 20 minutes along the Arrecife ring road and the LZ-1. The catch is that no bus runs directly from the airport to Costa Teguise. Lines 161 and 162-D head south and the airport lines 22 and 23 stop in Arrecife. Taking the bus means changing once in the capital.

The two-bus route, explained once

Leg one, airport to Arrecife. On weekdays take line 22 from Terminal 1. It runs from 05:45 to 23:35, roughly every 40–50 minutes, and reaches the Intercambiador, Arrecife's interchange, in about 9 minutes. On Saturdays, Sundays and holidays line 23 replaces it. That bus leaves the airport hourly at 17 minutes past (07:17 to 22:17) and loops through Playa Honda first, so the Intercambiador is about 22 minutes away.

Leg two, Arrecife to Costa Teguise. Line 1 starts at the Intercambiador and calls at the stop opposite the bus station (Frente Estación de Arrecife) a few minutes later. It then runs out along the coast road to Las Caletas, Hotel Oasis, Playa Roca, Playa Bastián (about 22 minutes from the Intercambiador), Pueblo Marinero and Hotel Salinas. Note one current quirk: the Los Alonso stops on this line are closed for roadworks, with a temporary stop by the Open Mall shopping centre.

An honest caveat about leg two. The operator's online timetable for line 1 currently shows only a handful of runs, starting around 07:00 from Arrecife, with the last return from Hotel Salinas at 22:40. It looks incomplete for such a busy line. Check the Intercity Bus app or the board at the bus station on the day rather than relying on a printout.

What the bus option really costs

The operator does not publish fares online. Guides put short hops like these at about €1.40 each, so call it €2.80–3 for the two legs. You pay each driver separately, with coins or a note of up to €10. If you have a lot of luggage, this is the option to drop. Not every bus has a hold, and the operator leaves it to the driver whether bags fit inside.

The taxi is the practical answer

Most people heading to Costa Teguise take a taxi, and for once that is not extravagant. The airport rank is outside Terminal 1 arrivals. Do the sums with the rates on Aena's taxi page and 14 km comes to roughly €25 in weekday daytime hours, including the airport surcharge. Nights, Sundays and holidays move it to about €28–29. Guides quoting €20–30 agree. You will be at the hotel door in about 20 minutes, against the best part of an hour by bus with a change.

The usual rule applies. Take a car from the official rank only, not from anyone approaching you inside the terminal, which Aena warns against. Ask for the receipt.

Pre-booking: groups and kit

Windsurf boards, kite bags, bike boxes or a family of six do not fit a standard taxi. That is the strongest reason to book a vehicle in advance here, because you can ask for a minivan or extra boot space instead of hoping the rank has one. Suntransfers lists private cars of up to four from about €43, and comparison sites show saloons from about £36. Shared shuttles start at roughly €7.30 per person and take around 30 minutes with hotel stops on the way.

Making the decision

  • Two or more people: taxi. It costs about €12–14 each and takes 20 minutes.
  • Solo, light bag, not in a hurry: the two-bus route for under €3, as long as you land in daytime.
  • Sports equipment or a big group: book a minivan transfer ahead.
  • Weekend arrival: remember the airport bus is line 23, not 22, and it takes longer because of the Playa Honda loop.

Before you go

Costa Teguise spreads out more than it looks on a map. The newer streets up the hill toward the golf course are a fair walk from the beachfront bus stops. If your accommodation is up there, the taxi is the better choice. For the trip home, line 1 runs back into Arrecife, where you can pick up line 22 or 23 to the terminals. Allow at least an hour from the resort to check-in by bus.
