Playa Honda is right next to the runway, about 3 km by road. The weekday line 22 drops off at Esquina Calle Mástil and Deiland a couple of minutes after leaving the terminals. The weekend line 23 loops through the residential streets. A taxi costs only a little more than the minimum fare, so pre-booking rarely makes sense unless you need a guaranteed child seat.

Buying tickets in Arrecife

Intercity Bus Lanzarote tickets are bought on board from the driver. There are no ticket machines at the airport stops. The operator asks you to pay the exact fare or use a note of no more than €10. Bank cards are accepted only when the on-board terminal is working, and a 2026 travel guide reports that contactless cards have not been accepted since December 2025, so carry coins. The operator does not publish a fare table online. Guides quote about €1.40 for short trips (Arrecife, Puerto del Carmen) and about €3.30 to Playa Blanca.

The Bono General rechargeable card costs €2, takes top-ups of €5–50 and gives 10% off each fare. It is not personalised and can pay for several passengers on the same trip. It is sold on board and at the offices in Arrecife bus station, Playa Blanca bus station and the Arrecife Intercambiador. Children under four travel free if they do not occupy a seat. Suitcases go in the luggage hold where the bus has one, and the driver decides what can be carried inside.

Arrive safe

Taxi scams & safety in Arrecife

Use only the official taxi rank outside Terminal 1 arrivals. Aena advises passengers to avoid drivers offering rides elsewhere in the terminal and to ask for a receipt if they want to make a complaint. Lanzarote taxis are metered, with no fixed airport fares. The approved tariff Aena publishes (BOC no. 59, 24 March 2023) is:

  • Tariff 1 (weekdays 06:00–22:00): €3.85 minimum, €1.35/km
  • Tariff 2 (nights 22:00–06:00, Sundays and holidays): €4.25 minimum, €1.55/km
  • €2.10 supplement for trips to or from the airport or port; waiting time €18.50/hour
  • Christmas nights (24 and 31 Dec, 5 Jan, 22:00–24:00): €6.54 minimum

Check that the meter is running and showing the right tariff for the day and time. Prices quoted online for pre-booked transfers are per vehicle, not per person, and are often higher than the meter for short trips such as Arrecife or Playa Honda.

Getting from ACE to Playa Honda

The town at the end of the runway

Playa Honda is the airport's next-door neighbour. Planes on final approach come in low over its rooftops, and the town is barely 3 km from the terminal by road. It is mostly a residential town where many island workers live, with a long, flat beach, a seafront promenade toward Arrecife and the Deiland shopping centre. Visitors here are often people with family on the island, business travellers using the industrial estate (Polígono de Playa Honda), or people who chose a holiday flat close to a cheap flight. All of them want the same thing from this trip: a short, cheap ride with no fuss.

By bus: depends on the day

No bus line runs only between the airport and Playa Honda, but the two Arrecife airport lines both pass through it. Which one helps depends on the day.

Monday to Friday, line 22. From Terminal 1 (05:45 to 23:35, roughly every 40–50 minutes), the first two stops after the terminals are Esquina Calle Mástil and Deiland, a couple of minutes apart and both in Playa Honda. The operator lists them as drop-off only, which is fine when you are arriving. This works well if you are staying near the shopping centre or the eastern streets. The bus then continues to Arrecife.

Saturdays, Sundays and holidays, line 23. The weekend bus covers more of Playa Honda. Leaving the airport hourly at 17 minutes past (07:17 to 22:17), it goes through the town: Esquina Calle Mástil after about 2 minutes, then Calle Mayor, Calle Alisios, Calle Mástil, the Instituto (secondary school) after about 10 minutes, the three Calle San Borondón stops and Princesa Ico about 18 minutes from the terminal. After that it heads into Arrecife.

The local lines 21 and 32, which link Playa Honda with Arrecife and San Bartolomé, do not call at the airport, so they are no help on arrival.

The fare and the small print

Expect the island's minimum fare, about €1.40 according to travel guides. The operator does not publish fares online. Pay the driver with coins or a note of €10 or less. A card may work if the terminal on board is working, but a 2026 guide says contactless has not been accepted since December 2025. Children under four travel free on a lap. Large suitcases go in the hold if there is one, and the driver decides on anything else.

The taxi: close to the minimum fare

Over 3 km, the meter barely moves past the starting charges. Two fixed items do most of the work: the €3.85 starting charge and the €2.10 surcharge for airport pickups. Distance adds €1.35 a kilometre by day. That puts most Playa Honda addresses at roughly €10–11, and about €11–12 at night, on Sundays or on holidays. Most of the fare is the fixed charges, not the distance. Short trips are still served from the official rank outside Terminal 1. Do not accept an offer from anyone approaching you in the hall, which Aena warns against, and ask for a receipt if you want one.

Is pre-booking worth it?

For most people, no. Online sellers start at about €32 for a private car to Playa Honda, three times the meter. There are two exceptions. If you need a child seat confirmed, booking guarantees it, which the rank cannot. And if you are arriving for work and need a receipt sent to your company in advance, a booked transfer gives you that paperwork. Shared shuttles are listed from about €6.70 per person, but they often go to the resorts first and you would wait for nothing.

Choosing quickly

  • Weekday, staying near Deiland or the eastern end: line 22, which takes a few minutes.
  • Weekend: line 23 stops in the middle of the residential streets.
  • Anything after the last bus, or with heavy bags: taxi, about €10–12.
  • Need a guaranteed child seat: pre-book.

One more thing

Because Playa Honda is so close, it works well for very early departures. Line 22's first weekday bus reaches the airport at 05:45. On weekends the 23 gets to the airport just after 07:00 on its way out of Arrecife. For a dawn flight, book a taxi the night before. Either way, the trip home is about as short as an airport run can be.
