Puerto del Carmen is Lanzarote's biggest resort and the nearest to the runway, so this is a short transfer. Bus 161 leaves both terminals every 30–60 minutes from 07:30 to 21:30 and stops right along the seafront. A taxi from the rank costs about €20–25 on the meter. The main decision is how far along the long, thin resort your hotel is.

Before you ride

Buying tickets in Arrecife

Intercity Bus Lanzarote tickets are bought on board from the driver. There are no ticket machines at the airport stops. The operator asks you to pay the exact fare or use a note of no more than €10. Bank cards are accepted only when the on-board terminal is working, and a 2026 travel guide reports that contactless cards have not been accepted since December 2025, so carry coins. The operator does not publish a fare table online. Guides quote about €1.40 for short trips (Arrecife, Puerto del Carmen) and about €3.30 to Playa Blanca.

The Bono General rechargeable card costs €2, takes top-ups of €5–50 and gives 10% off each fare. It is not personalised and can pay for several passengers on the same trip. It is sold on board and at the offices in Arrecife bus station, Playa Blanca bus station and the Arrecife Intercambiador. Children under four travel free if they do not occupy a seat. Suitcases go in the luggage hold where the bus has one, and the driver decides what can be carried inside.

Arrive safe

Taxi scams & safety in Arrecife

Use only the official taxi rank outside Terminal 1 arrivals. Aena advises passengers to avoid drivers offering rides elsewhere in the terminal and to ask for a receipt if they want to make a complaint. Lanzarote taxis are metered, with no fixed airport fares. The approved tariff Aena publishes (BOC no. 59, 24 March 2023) is:

  • Tariff 1 (weekdays 06:00–22:00): €3.85 minimum, €1.35/km
  • Tariff 2 (nights 22:00–06:00, Sundays and holidays): €4.25 minimum, €1.55/km
  • €2.10 supplement for trips to or from the airport or port; waiting time €18.50/hour
  • Christmas nights (24 and 31 Dec, 5 Jan, 22:00–24:00): €6.54 minimum

Check that the meter is running and showing the right tariff for the day and time. Prices quoted online for pre-booked transfers are per vehicle, not per person, and are often higher than the meter for short trips such as Arrecife or Playa Honda.

Getting from ACE to Puerto del Carmen

Twelve kilometres and you are on the promenade

Puerto del Carmen is the resort most people on a Lanzarote flight are heading for, and it happens to be the easiest one to reach. The airport sits on the coast just east of town, so the drive is a short run along the LZ-2 and then down onto Avenida de las Playas, the long seafront road that strings the resort together. By car it is about 12 km and a quarter of an hour. Even the bus, which stops a dozen times along the way, has you at the Centro Comercial Atlántico in roughly 16 minutes.

The one thing to know before you choose: Puerto del Carmen is long and thin. Matagorda and Los Pocillos, at the airport end, are a different walk from the old harbour at the far western end. Check which part your hotel is in, because it changes which bus stop you want and how much the taxi meter shows.

Line 161: the bus that runs past most hotels

Intercity Bus Lanzarote's line 161 leaves from Terminal 1 and calls at Terminal 2 a minute later, then heads straight into the resort. Going by the operator's current timetable, the first airport departure is 07:30, then 08:30, then every half hour from 09:00 until 16:30, then hourly from 17:30 to 21:30. The weekday, Saturday and Sunday timetables we checked for late October were identical.

The stops read like a hotel list: Matagorda (about 6 minutes from the airport), Hotel Jameos, Costa Mar, Hotel San Antonio, C.C. Welcome Sea, Casino, C.C. Atlántico (around 16 minutes), Apart. Caletón Blanco, C.C. Biosfera and Balcón de Mar. After that the bus climbs away towards Puerto Calero and Playa Blanca, so do not doze off. The operator says the 161 does not pick up passengers for trips within Puerto del Carmen, which does not matter on the way in from the airport.

Missed the 21:30? There is a single late bus, line 61, at 22:30 from Terminal 1. It follows the same seafront stops, then goes on via Uga to Playa Blanca.

What the bus costs and how to pay

Intercity Bus does not publish a fare table online. Several 2026 travel guides quote about €1.40 from the airport to Puerto del Carmen, and that matches the island's minimum single fare. You pay the driver. The operator asks for the exact fare or a note no bigger than €10. Cards are accepted only when the on-board terminal is working, and one 2026 guide says contactless has not been taken since December 2025, so carry coins. Suitcases go in the hold if the bus has one, and the driver decides what fits inside.

Taxi: metered, quick, and cheap enough for two

The rank is directly outside arrivals at Terminal 1. Lanzarote taxis run on the meter. Aena lists the approved tariffs: on weekdays from 06:00 to 22:00, a €3.85 minimum, €1.35 per km and a €2.10 supplement for airport pickups. At night, on Sundays and on holidays it goes up to a €4.25 minimum and €1.55 per km. Worked out over 12 km, that comes to roughly €20–24 by day and about €25 at night or on a Sunday. It costs more if you are staying at the far end of the old town. With two or more of you, that is close to the price of a pre-booked car without the booking.

Take the first car at the official rank, not one offered by someone walking up to you in the hall. Aena specifically warns against that. Ask for a receipt if anything seems off.

Booking ahead instead

The case for a private transfer here is mainly that the price is fixed. You know the figure before you fly, there is no meter running on a Sunday tariff, and the car takes you to the door of an apartment block on a back street that a bus never goes near. Online sellers currently start at about €34 for a car of up to four (Suntransfers) and roughly £27 on fixed-price comparison sites. That is a little more than the metered fare for a short trip like this. Shared shuttles from the same sellers start at around €6.90 per person, but they drop off at several hotels and take about 25 minutes.

Which one, for whom

  • Solo or a couple with light bags, landing in daylight: the 161. Every half hour for most of the day, and it stops close to most hotels on the strip.
  • Families, or anyone arriving at night: the taxi rank. It takes 15 minutes and the meter barely gets going.
  • Groups of four or more with a lot of luggage: book a minivan so nobody waits for a second taxi.
  • Late flights: the 22:30 line 61 is the last bus. After that it is a taxi or whatever you booked.

Local notes

The 161 timetable is the same in both directions, so on the way home you can catch it from the same seafront stops. Southbound buses from Playa Blanca reach Puerto del Carmen around 35 minutes after leaving, and the airport about 15 minutes later. Allow for that on departure day. Líneas Romero also runs a small waterbus between Puerto del Carmen's harbour and Puerto Calero, which makes a good first-day outing once your bags are dropped.
