Buying tickets in Arrecife
Intercity Bus Lanzarote tickets are bought on board from the driver. There are no ticket machines at the airport stops. The operator asks you to pay the exact fare or use a note of no more than €10. Bank cards are accepted only when the on-board terminal is working, and a 2026 travel guide reports that contactless cards have not been accepted since December 2025, so carry coins. The operator does not publish a fare table online. Guides quote about €1.40 for short trips (Arrecife, Puerto del Carmen) and about €3.30 to Playa Blanca.
The Bono General rechargeable card costs €2, takes top-ups of €5–50 and gives 10% off each fare. It is not personalised and can pay for several passengers on the same trip. It is sold on board and at the offices in Arrecife bus station, Playa Blanca bus station and the Arrecife Intercambiador. Children under four travel free if they do not occupy a seat. Suitcases go in the luggage hold where the bus has one, and the driver decides what can be carried inside.
Taxi scams & safety in Arrecife
Use only the official taxi rank outside Terminal 1 arrivals. Aena advises passengers to avoid drivers offering rides elsewhere in the terminal and to ask for a receipt if they want to make a complaint. Lanzarote taxis are metered, with no fixed airport fares. The approved tariff Aena publishes (BOC no. 59, 24 March 2023) is:
- Tariff 1 (weekdays 06:00–22:00): €3.85 minimum, €1.35/km
- Tariff 2 (nights 22:00–06:00, Sundays and holidays): €4.25 minimum, €1.55/km
- €2.10 supplement for trips to or from the airport or port; waiting time €18.50/hour
- Christmas nights (24 and 31 Dec, 5 Jan, 22:00–24:00): €6.54 minimum
Check that the meter is running and showing the right tariff for the day and time. Prices quoted online for pre-booked transfers are per vehicle, not per person, and are often higher than the meter for short trips such as Arrecife or Playa Honda.
Getting from ACE to Corralejo, Fuerteventura (via Playa Blanca ferry)
Two islands, one road and one strait
Some people fly into Lanzarote while staying on Fuerteventura, often because the flights are cheaper or better timed. It works because Playa Blanca, at Lanzarote's southern tip, is only a short crossing from Corralejo at Fuerteventura's northern end. The trip has two stages. First about 32 km by road from the airport to Playa Blanca harbour, then a 25–35 minute ferry over the Bocayna strait. If the connections line up, you can be in Corralejo about an hour and a half after collecting your bags.
Stage one: airport to Playa Blanca harbour
All the southern bus lines end at the harbour stop, Muelle de Playa Blanca, so the bus delivers you straight to the port.
- Line 162-D is the one to look for first. It passes Terminal 1 at about 10:20, 12:20, 13:20, 14:20, 15:20, 16:20, 17:20 and 19:20 and runs semi-direct, reaching the harbour in about 25 minutes.
- Line 161 runs more often: 07:30, 08:30, every half hour from 09:00 to 16:30, then hourly to 21:30. It goes along the coast through Puerto del Carmen and Yaiza, so allow about 55 minutes to the harbour.
- Line 61 at 22:30 reaches the harbour after the last ferries have sailed, so it is no use for this trip.
Guides put the bus fare to Playa Blanca at about €3.30. The operator does not publish fares, so carry coins or a note of no more than €10.
A taxi from the Terminal 1 rank takes 35–40 minutes. The meter comes to roughly €47–55, with the top of that range applying at night, on Sundays and on holidays. A pre-booked car from online sellers is about €75–90. Its advantage on this route is that the driver can be given your sailing time and the price stays the same if the plane is late.
Stage two: choosing a ferry
Three companies sail Playa Blanca–Corralejo, and between them there are frequent departures through the day.
- Fred. Olsen Express advertises up to 12 departures a day, about hourly. The Bocayna Express takes vehicles and crosses in about 25 minutes. The Buganvilla Express is passenger-only and takes about 35. Fred. Olsen publishes only resident prices on the route page (from €5 and €8 after a 75% resident discount), which suggests non-resident fares of very roughly €20 and €32. Confirm when booking. Luggage trolleys at the port cost €1.
- Líneas Romero lists departures from Lanzarote at 09:30, 11:15, 12:45, 16:30 and 18:30, with a published non-resident adult fare of €20.50 one way and €39 return (children €11 / €21).
- Baleària Canarias, which took over Naviera Armas' routes, offers up to seven sailings a day on weekdays and six at weekends, crossing in about 35 minutes. Fares start from €8 and vary with date and demand.
Booking sites show the first departures from Playa Blanca at about 06:50 and the last at about 20:00. Foot passengers are asked to be at the port about 20 minutes before sailing.
Putting the two halves together
Some combinations that work on paper: the 10:20 162-D reaches the harbour around 10:45, in time for the 11:15 Romero or the next Fred. Olsen. A 15:20 162-D gets you to the port about 15:45 with time to spare for the 16:30 Romero. The 161 reaches the harbour 55 minutes after leaving the airport, at 25 minutes past the hour for most of the day, which suits a sailing about 35–40 minutes later. Missing a boat by a few minutes is common, so leave yourself one spare departure.
What it adds up to
- Cheapest: bus plus Líneas Romero, about €3.30 + €20.50 = roughly €24 per adult.
- Quickest: taxi to the port plus Fred. Olsen's Bocayna Express, about 85 minutes from the taxi rank, port check-in included.
- Families with luggage: a pre-booked car to the port, then any passenger ferry. The car fare is shared between everyone, and the ferry fare is per person.
Common mistakes on this route
Arriving on the last flight of the evening and expecting to cross. By the time a 22:30 bus reaches Playa Blanca the last ferry has gone, so a late arrival means a night in Playa Blanca. Assuming every ferry ticket can be used on another company's boat: they cannot, so check the operator name on your booking. Not checking for wind: the Bocayna strait can be choppy, and operators may change sailings for weather, so check the day's departures before you leave the airport.
