Buying tickets in Palma
Palma's airport is served by EMT city bus A1 to the centre and Plaça d'Espanya, plus A2 to S'Arenal along the Platja de Palma beaches, with single fares around €5 paid on board. TIB regional buses also depart for towns across Mallorca. Paying by contactless bank card or the Intermodal transport card is noticeably cheaper than cash, with discounts of up to about 40% on single fares in 2026. Buy the Intermodal card at machines if you plan multiple journeys; otherwise tap your card as you board.
Taxi scams & safety in Palma
Take taxis only from the official rank outside Arrivals; Palma airport taxis are metered with a set airport starting supplement, and a ride into central Palma is usually a short, moderate fare. Avoid anyone offering a "cheaper" private lift inside the terminal, as unlicensed transfers are the main issue here. App-based ride-hailing is limited on the island: Uber generally does not operate, while Cabify availability is patchy, so the metered rank or pre-booked licensed transfers are the dependable choices.
Step-free access in Palma
Mallorca's public bus network is set up for wheelchair users on both the city and island services.
- EMT city buses in Palma and the TIB inter-urban buses serving the rest of the island are wheelchair accessible.
- Wheelchair-accessible vehicles with ramps or lifts can be booked in advance for transfers, which is the dependable option for the resorts where bus frequency drops off out of season.
Palma airport itself runs a disability assistance service; request it through your airline when you book.
Getting from PMI to Can Pastilla
The numbers first
- Distance: about 4–5 km, depending on where along the seafront you are staying.
- Bus: EMT A2, every 35 minutes, €3 by contactless bank card or €5 cash.
- Taxi: €16.95 airport minimum fare, which covers the first 7 km.
- Pre-booked car: about €38–42.
Can Pastilla belongs to the city of Palma, so the city bus company EMT serves it rather than the island network TIB. The resort runs along the bay from the marina, past Cala Estància, towards S'Arenal, and it is the nearest beach resort to the terminal by a wide margin.
Line A2, the beach airport bus
EMT's A2 runs from Aeroport – Arribades to S'Arenal along the Platja de Palma. The first stops after the airport are Cala Estància, Can Pastilla – Racó de Can Ripoll and Can Pastilla – ses Fontanelles, then it carries on through the numbered balnearis to S'Arenal. On weekdays the first bus leaves the airport at 06:15 and they run every 35 minutes or so through the day, with late departures at 23:35, 00:15 and 01:15. Weekend timetables are published separately on EMT's site.
The fare is €5 in cash for airport lines, with a €10 maximum on cash payments. Tap a contactless bank card on the reader instead and the first passenger pays 40% less, which is €3, with bigger discounts for others on the same card (up to five people). The A1 and A2 are airport-only lines: they do not carry passengers between intermediate stops, so you cannot use the A2 for a hop along the beach later in the week.
The bus stops are on the main road a block or two back from the promenade. With a single suitcase the walk is short and flat.
Taxi: the minimum is the fare
Mallorca's 2025 taxi tariff sets a minimum fare from the airport of €16.95, which includes the flag fall, the €4.65 airport supplement and the first 7 km. For most Can Pastilla hotels the trip is shorter than that, so €16.95 is what you pay; hotels towards Cala Estància may tip slightly over. Taxis wait at the signed rank on the ground floor of arrivals. For two people the gap to the bus fare is about €11, and the taxi drops you at reception.
A five- or six-person group pays a €3 supplement under the tariff. Night and weekend rates apply from 21:00 to 07:00 and all weekend, but on a minimum-fare trip they make no difference.
Pre-booked: mostly for peace of mind
Private transfer quotes are about €38 (Mytransfers), €41 (Suntransfers) and the equivalent of about €41 at Hoppa, which lists it at £35.70. That is more than double the taxi. Booking makes sense only if you need a specific vehicle: a van for a large group, child seats for small children, or a guaranteed car on arrival in August when the rank queue can be long. Shared shuttles cost about €15–18 per person, which is pointless for a couple when the taxi costs €16.95 for the whole car.
Which option for which traveller
Solo, with one bag, in daylight: the A2 by card is hard to beat at €3. Two people: the taxi at €16.95 is about €11 more than two card fares and saves the walk from the stop. Three or four: the taxi costs about the same as three cash fares and less than four, and it goes to the door.
Arriving at night
The A2 runs until 01:15 on weekdays, which covers most evening flights. After that, the rank works around the clock and the minimum fare still applies, so a 03:00 landing costs the same as a noon one.
Practical notes
Aircraft noise is a feature of the western end of the resort, particularly near Cala Estància. If you are a light sleeper, the hotels further east along the Platja de Palma are quieter, and the A2 serves them too. For the return, the A2 runs back to the airport from S'Arenal through Can Pastilla; at this distance you can leave later than from almost anywhere else on the island.
