Buying tickets in Palma
Palma's airport is served by EMT city bus A1 to the centre and Plaça d'Espanya, plus A2 toward Palma's beaches, with single fares around €5 paid on board. TIB regional buses also depart for towns across Mallorca. Paying by contactless bank card or the Intermodal transport card is noticeably cheaper than cash, with discounts of up to about 40% on single fares in 2026. Taxi scams & safety in Palma
Take taxis only from the official rank outside Arrivals; Palma airport taxis are metered with a set airport starting supplement, and a ride into central Palma is usually a short, moderate fare. Avoid anyone offering a "cheaper" private lift inside the terminal, as unlicensed transfers are the main issue here. App-based ride-hailing is limited on the island: Uber generally does not operate, while Cabify availability is patchy, so the metered rank or pre-booked licensed transfers are the dependable choices.
Getting from PMI to Palmanova
Palmanova and Magaluf share the same Calvià bay, the same coach route out of Palma airport, and roughly the same 19 km of road. What they don't share is a mood. Magaluf is the loud one; Palmanova, one resort along, keeps three sheltered sandy coves, a palm-lined promenade and a run of mid-range beach hotels that fill up with families rather than stag groups. The drive from PMI takes about 35 minutes. The catch is that "same road, quieter resort" only helps you until you step off the coach — after that, whether you land on the seafront or a ten-minute walk from it comes down to which service you picked and which hotel you booked.
The A11 coach runs the Calvià strip — and only in summer
TIB's AEROTIB Line A11 is the cheap way in. You'll pay around €6.75 in cash or €4.05 tapping a card, and Palmanova is the first main resort stop on the route, so you're off before the bus grinds through the rest of Calvià — figure on about 40 minutes door to stand. The A11 coach stand sits right on the arrivals level, so there's no shuttle-to-a-bus-station faff. The real limitation is the calendar: this line only runs in the summer window, roughly late March through October, several times a day rather than around the clock. Arrive in the low season or on a late flight and the A11 simply isn't an option, which is where the rank and pre-booked cars come back into the picture.
From the A11 stop to your cove is the part nobody plans for
Here's the trade-off the coach hides. The A11 sets you down at a fixed point on the Palmanova strip, not at your hotel door. If you've booked one of the seafront places along the promenade, that's a short, flat wheel of the suitcase and you've saved a fair bit of money. If your hotel sits back up the hill toward the main road — plenty do — you're finishing the trip with a warm uphill walk or a top-up taxi anyway, which quietly eats the saving. If the A11's seasonal timetable rules it out but a private car feels like more than you want to spend, the shared holiday shuttle threads the middle. A minibus serving the Calvià resorts runs door to door for something like €11 to €17 a head, pre-booked to your flight time, with a rep waiting at the arrivals desk. The price of that low fare is patience: it makes a couple of stops around the bay before yours, so budget closer to 45 minutes overall. Renting is the other case worth weighing — desks in the terminal compound go for roughly €25 to €55 a day, and a car earns its keep if you plan to hop between the Calvià coves or slip into Palma for an evening. Just confirm your hotel has parking before you sign, because on the promenade it isn't a given. Whichever you choose, do the hotel-to-beach map check first — on this bay, the last five minutes matter more than the first thirty-five.
