Magaluf sits about 22 km west of Palma airport on the Calvià coast, and for a summer package crowd the trip is short enough that the real question isn't distance — it's where your hotel stands and what time your charter lands. The bay stretches a long way, from the quieter Palmanova end down to the strip, so a cheap coach that drops everyone at the same roadside stop works brilliantly for some rooms and badly for others. Here's how the €4 coach, the €43 taxi and the pre-booked options actually stack up when you're carrying a case and thinking about the first night out.

The A11 bus is cheap and runs all year, but it stops up on the main road

The TIB AEROTIB A11 is the direct budget link. You'll find its coach bays on the arrivals level — look for the A11 stand signed to Palmanova / Magaluf / Peguera, and it runs to Magaluf in 40 to 50 minutes. Tap a contactless card and it's €4.05 (less for each extra person on the same card); cash is €6.75, so tap if you can, and remember to tap out when you get off. Two things to know before you count on it. First, the timetable is seasonal: the one in force since 27 March 2026 runs from the airport between 08:25 and 00:05, and the winter timetable has fewer buses. Second, departures come every 35 to 40 minutes rather than every few minutes, so pull up the day's timetable rather than assuming one will be waiting. The coach sets you down at stops along the main road through the resort, not at reception — fine if that's a two-minute roll to your door, less fun if it isn't.

Which end of the bay your room is on decides bus-versus-transfer

This is the call that catches people out. Magaluf's hotels spread across a wide slope, and the A11's roadside stops leave you to cover the last stretch on foot. If you're booked near the beach or the strip and your stop is close, the coach is unbeatable value — walk it and you've spent €4 to get to the door. But plenty of the bigger hotels sit up the hill or out toward Palmanova, and dragging a suitcase uphill in July heat, or down a strip you don't know yet, turns a bargain into a slog. Check your hotel's position against the bus route before you commit. If it's a climb, a shared holiday shuttle (Shuttle Direct and similar) runs door-to-door from about €12 to €18 a head — it makes a few drop-offs on the Calvià coast so it's slower, near 50 minutes, but it ends at your reception instead of a bus shelter.

A 2 a.m. Charter changes the maths entirely

Package flights to Palma love the awkward slots — landing after midnight, or pushing out before dawn. When the A11 has stopped for the night, the airport taxi rank is your fallback: white cabs queue outside arrivals, a marshal assigns the next one, and the fixed reference fare sits around €43 in daytime, nearer €47 after 21:00 and on holidays. It's straight to the hotel in about half an hour, meter or no meter, so a late group of two or three often just takes the cab and skips the wait. The snag is the summer queue itself — on a busy changeover night the rank can back up badly, which is exactly the moment a pre-booked option pays off.

Four friends split one car cheaper than four taxi meters

A private transfer through Welcome Pickups or a local Mallorca firm is priced per vehicle, not per person, roughly €35 to €50 for the whole car whether there are two of you or four. Book it ahead and a driver meets your group past baggage reclaim, so you walk straight out to the car and skip the taxi queue on the worst night of the week — the door-to-door run takes about 30 minutes. Spread across a group of mates the per-head cost drops below the coach, and nobody's navigating a strange resort with luggage at 3 a.m. That's the version that makes sense for a party group arriving together: one car, one fixed price, one greeter, no timetable to read.

Renting a car is the odd one out here — expect €25 to €55 a day, but Magaluf itself is walkable and most resort hotels charge for parking, so it only earns its keep if you're planning day trips to the other side of the island. For most weekends, the real shortlist is this: near-the-beach room and daytime landing, take the A11 for €4.05; up the hill or a late flight, book a shuttle or split a transfer and be at reception before the queue clears.
