Playa Paraíso is the newer, quieter end of Adeje: a cluster of design-led hotels on the cliffs north of Callao Salvaje, half an hour beyond the airport by car. No bus runs there directly, which surprises people who expect the TF-1 coast to be well served all the way up. The two-bus relay works, but only if you know where to change.

Buying tickets in Tenerife

Tenerife has no rail at all, so everything runs on TITSA's green guaguas. Buy a tenmás card for €2 from the machines or the TITSA desk and top it up with any amount: fares are cheaper than paying the driver, especially on long intercity runs such as the airport to Santa Cruz or Puerto de la Cruz, and one card can be tapped for several passengers. Without a card you pay the driver (change may not be available for notes over €10) or use the ten+ Móvil app. Airport lines are 40 (Los Cristianos, Playa de las Américas, Costa Adeje), 10 (Santa Cruz), 343 (the express linking both island airports with Puerto de la Cruz, and running south to Costa Adeje), 415 (El Fraile, San Isidro) and the 711 night service. The 343 runs to a sparse timetable, so check departures against your landing time rather than assuming a bus will be waiting.

Arrive safe

Taxi scams & safety in Tenerife

Spain regulates taxis tightly and Tenerife is a low-risk airport: fares are metered, the rank outside arrivals is marshalled, and drivers are licensed. Take the next car in the queue rather than accepting an approach inside the terminal. Two legitimate charges surprise visitors and are not scams — the supplement after 22:00, and per-item luggage charges — so check the tariff card displayed in the vehicle rather than assuming you are being overcharged. The genuine risk here is car hire: always photograph the vehicle from every angle before leaving the lot, and be wary of counters offering a heavily discounted rate with a large fuel or excess deposit attached. Local firms such as Cicar and Autoreisen quote insurance-inclusive rates and are the safer default.

Getting around

Step-free access in Tenerife

The island bus network reaches most resorts from the airport, but not every vehicle is adapted.

  • TITSA runs the public buses from Tenerife South across the island. Some, but not all, of the fleet is wheelchair accessible — you cannot assume the next bus will be.
  • Where a bus is adapted, it takes a chair up to 750 mm wide and 1300 mm long, with a combined chair-and-passenger weight up to 300 kg.

Because you cannot tell in advance which vehicle will turn up, a pre-booked adapted transfer is the dependable choice for the southern resorts, particularly with an evening arrival when services thin out.

Getting from TFS to Playa Paraíso

Why there is no straight bus

The airport buses on Tenerife are built around the big resorts: Los Cristianos, Las Américas and the main Costa Adeje strip. Playa Paraíso lies about 28 km from the terminal, past all of those, on the coast below Armeñime. TITSA's own data shows no airport line that reaches it. The resort is served by line 471, a local route from Los Cristianos through the Costa Adeje bus station to Playa Paraíso, so the job is to get from the airport onto the 471.

The relay: Aeroexpress 40, then the 471

The tidiest connection is TITSA's Aeroexpress line 40, which runs from the airport to Los Cristianos and on to Estación Costa Adeje, the bus station on the edge of the resort. It leaves the airport every half hour from 06:30, with the last at 21:40, and the timetable allows about 32 minutes to the station. The single fare to Costa Adeje is listed at €3.70, or about €3.30 with a ten+ card.

At Estación Costa Adeje, switch to the 471 towards Playa Paraíso. It winds through San Eugenio, Fañabé, the upper part of Adeje and Armeñime before dropping to the coast, and TITSA's timetable gives it roughly 36–39 minutes from the station to the Playa Paraíso terminus. On weekdays it runs about every half hour; at weekends the gap is closer to 45–50 minutes, with buses into the late evening. Stops at Rosa Center, El Aljibe, Hard Rock Hotel and Punta Negra cover most of the hotels.

Allow 80–95 minutes end to end once you include the change. The 471 is a second fare: TITSA charges by distance and does not publish a fixed figure for this leg, but at about 14 km it should sit somewhere between the €2.45 and €3.20 that TITSA charges for similar distances, putting the whole trip at around €6–7. A ten+ card earns a transfer discount on the second bus.

Late flights and the night line

After the last line 40, TITSA's night service 711 leaves the airport at intervals from about 22:20 into the small hours and runs via Los Cristianos to Costa Adeje. It does not go to Playa Paraíso, so you will still need a taxi for the last stretch from Adeje, about 10 km. For a midnight arrival with luggage, that two-step makes little sense compared with a taxi straight from the rank.

What the meter says

Taxis at Tenerife South use the Canary tariff: a €2.10 airport supplement, €3.85 to start and €1.35 per kilometre by day, or €4.25 and €1.55 a kilometre from 22:00 to 06:00 and at weekends. Over 28 km that comes to roughly €43 in daytime and about €49 at night. The drive takes around half an hour: motorway to Adeje, then the TF-47 coast road.

Pre-booked cars and shared shuttles

Private transfer quotes for Playa Paraíso this month run from about €54 (Mytransfers) to €73 (Suntransfers) for a standard car. That is above the daytime meter, so the case for booking is not price. It is that the fare stays the same whatever time you land, and that the car is waiting when you clear the hall rather than leaving you in a queue behind a charter flight's worth of passengers. If a hotel here offers its own transfer, compare it: some include it in packages.

Shared shuttles to Playa Paraíso start at about €11–13 per person. Because the resort is at the far end of the usual drop-off loop, expect to be one of the last off, which can turn half an hour into an hour.

Choosing between them

  • Travelling light, in daylight, on a budget: line 40 and the 471, for roughly €6–7.
  • Two or more with cases: the taxi, at about €43–49 for the car.
  • Landing late, or wanting the price fixed in advance: a pre-booked transfer.

Coming back, the 471 runs from Playa Paraíso to the Costa Adeje station, where line 40 picks up for the airport every half hour; give the change a comfortable margin before a flight.
