Porto Francisco Sá Carneiro Airport to Porto Campanhã Station
Porto Campanhã station is about 20 km from the airport. Metro line E gets there in about 40 minutes for a €2.30 Z4 fare, direct or via Trindade. A taxi takes around 25 minutes, roughly €25–35.

Campanhã is where Porto connects to the rest of Portugal's rail network: Alfa Pendular and Intercidades trains to Lisbon, urban trains to Braga, Guimarães and Aveiro, and the intercity bus terminal next door. If you are landing at OPO to catch a train, what matters is how long the airport-to-platform transfer takes. This page gives the numbers and the margins to allow.

Buying tickets in Porto
Andante is the shared ticket for the Porto metropolitan area. It covers the metro, STCP buses and CP urban trains within the zones you pay for. The paper Andante Azul card costs €0.60, is rechargeable, and can only be used by one person per journey. Buy and top it up at the ticket machines in Aeroporto metro station, just outside the terminal. Each person in a group needs their own card.
2026 single fares (Metro do Porto): Z2 €1.40 (valid 1 h), Z3 €1.85 (1 h), Z4 €2.30 (1 h 15), Z5 €2.80 (1 h 30). You can load from 1 to 30 trips of the same type. A 10-trip Z4 load costs €23.00. An Andante 24 Z4 costs €8.55 for 24 hours, and the tourist Andante Tour 1 and Tour 3 cost €7.75 and €16.55. Central Porto (Trindade, Aliados, São Bento, Campanhã) needs a Z4 from the airport. For other destinations, check the destination list posted in the station.
Contactless bank cards work on the marked validators at Aeroporto, Senhora da Hora, Casa da Música, Trindade and the central stations. Each tap is charged as a Z4 (€2.30) and is valid for 1 h 15, with a daily cap of €7.75. Validate every time you board or change line, at most 10 minutes before you travel. On STCP buses the driver sells a single-journey ticket for €2.50.
CP trains to Braga, Guimarães and Aveiro run outside the Andante area, so buy a CP ticket at Campanhã (from a machine, the ticket office or the CP app). GetBus coach tickets are sold online, in the GetBus app, at the GetBus counter in the terminal (daily 09:00–13:00 and 14:00–18:00) or from the driver.
Taxi scams & safety in Porto
Take taxis only from the official rank outside arrivals. Licensed Porto taxis are black with a green roof or beige, and they carry a meter and a roof sign. Portugal's new national taxi tariff, published in June 2026, has been postponed. Until it takes effect, the meter runs on the old structure: a flag fall of about €3.25, a €1.60 supplement for each bag larger than 55×35×20 cm, a higher rate at night, at weekends and on holidays, and any tolls added on top. Expect roughly €25–35 to central Porto. Ask for the receipt (recibo), which shows the licence number.
Ignore anyone in the hall offering a ride. Unlicensed drivers do approach arriving passengers, and their prices are whatever they decide. App rides (Uber, Bolt) are legal in Portugal and pick up in the designated area, not at the taxi rank.
On the metro, the risk is a fine, not a scam. You must validate the Andante card every time you board or change, even inside your time window. Inspectors check line E regularly, and an unvalidated card counts as travelling without a ticket.
Step-free access in Porto
Porto Airport runs MyWay, a free assistance service for passengers with a disability or reduced mobility, on departure, in transit and on arrival. Request it from your airline or travel agent when you book, or at least 48 hours before the published departure time.
- On arrival, the airline notifies MyWay, and staff assist from your aircraft seat to your next point of departure.
- When you arrive for a flight, use the MyWay phone at the marked Designated Point of Arrival to call for help with check-in, security, border control and boarding.
- A companion can stay with you throughout if you cannot travel without one.
- Reserved spaces for cars with the reduced-mobility badge are available in all the airport car parks, near the exits.
Getting from OPO to Porto Campanhã Station
Key figures
- Metro: line E (violet) from Aeroporto. About 40 minutes, €2.30 Z4 fare.
- Taxi: about 25 minutes off-peak, roughly €25–35 on the meter.
- Pre-booked car: sedan quoted at about €24, minivan about €40.
- Metro hours: about 06:00 to 00:40 from the airport (timetable valid from 7 September 2026).
Direct train or change at Trindade
Line E has two terminal points at the city end. Some trains stop at Trindade. Others continue east through Bolhão, Campo 24 de Agosto, Heroísmo and Campanhã to Estádio do Dragão. The September 2026 frequency sheet lists the Aeroporto–Estádio do Dragão trains at roughly every 30 minutes on weekday daytimes. The Trindade trains fill the gaps between them.
If the next train only goes to Trindade, take it anyway. Trindade is the network's main interchange, and every line heading east (A, B, C, E and F) stops at Campanhã a few stations later. Validate your card again at Trindade. One Andante Z4 trip at €2.30 is valid for 1 h 15, which is enough for the whole transfer. A new Andante Azul card costs €0.60. A contactless bank card also works on the marked validators at Aeroporto, Trindade and Campanhã, charged at the same Z4 rate.
Zone check: Z4 is the fare for central Porto from the airport. The airport station also has a list of destinations by zone. Look Campanhã up there if you want to confirm before you buy.
Planning around a train departure
Allow time for each stage: about 15 minutes from the aircraft to the arrivals hall without checked bags, then 5 minutes to buy a ticket. The wait for a train can be up to 30 minutes late in the evening, plus about 40 minutes of riding, plus 5 minutes to walk from the metro platform to the CP platforms. That adds up to roughly 90 minutes from landing to a train you can board comfortably. For a reserved Alfa Pendular seat, two hours is the safer margin.
CP's urban trains to Braga and Guimarães cost €3.60 and run roughly hourly. Trains to Aveiro cost €3.95 and run about twice an hour (CP journey planner, checked for 22 October 2026). These destinations are outside the Andante area, so buy a CP ticket at the station machines, the ticket office or in the CP app. CP has announced a strike for 30 October 2026, so check service notices before travelling around that date.
Taxi or transfer
The taxi rank is directly outside arrivals. Porto's meter still runs on the old tariff, because the national reform has been postponed: about €3.25 at the start, a €1.60 charge per large bag, and a higher rate at night, at weekends and on holidays. The fare to Campanhã is similar to the fare to the centre, roughly €25–35. The road route uses the A28 and the VCI ring road, which can slow badly at the morning and evening peaks.
A pre-booked car is the right choice when the train time is fixed and the flight time is not. Most operators track the flight and include up to an hour's waiting, and the price is agreed in advance: about €24 for a sedan, €29 for an MPV and €40 for a seven-seater.
Late arrivals
The last metro leaves the airport at around 00:40. CP's last urban trains from Campanhã leave late in the evening, around 23:00–23:30 to Aveiro, Guimarães and Braga. A few run in the early hours, so check the CP planner for your date. If you land late, plan to stay overnight near the station rather than chase the last train. STCP night bus 3M runs hourly to Avenida dos Aliados from about 00:30 to 05:30. It does not stop at Campanhã, but from Aliados you can take a taxi for the remaining distance.
At the station
The metro stop sits beside the railway station, and signs lead from the metro platforms to the CP platforms. The intercity coach terminal is next to the station complex. The main hall has ticket machines with an English option. Ticket queues at the office build up before the morning Lisbon departures, so use a machine or the app if you can.
