Buying tickets in Lemnos
Lemnos does something unusual and helpful: taxis at the airport work to a posted fare board with set prices to the main settlements โ Myrina around โฌ30, Moudros โฌ12โ18, Plati โฌ32โ38, Thanos โฌ34โ42. Glance at the whole list on your way out, because it tells you what journeys will cost later in the week. KTEL Limnou also runs buses to Myrina roughly three times a day, Monday to Saturday, taking about 31 minutes for a few euros, terminating at Eleftherios Venizelos square where all island routes begin. There are no Sunday services. Beyond the capital the network thins to village runs timed for residents, and the beaches are essentially unserved, which is why nearly everyone staying outside Myrina hires a car.
Taxi scams & safety in Lemnos
With fares posted rather than negotiated, Lemnos is about as low-friction as Greek island arrivals get. The risks here are logistical. The rank is small โ this island takes few flights โ so a full arrival can clear it. More importantly, large parts of Lemnos have no taxi rank and no passing traffic at all: Keros, Thanos, Agios Ioannis and the archaeological site at Poliochni are all places a car drops you and then leaves. If you take a taxi to a site rather than a settlement, agree a return time with the same driver before they go. And if you are flying out early from anywhere outside Myrina, arrange the departure transfer when you book the arrival โ with three buses a day and no passing trade at dawn, there is no fallback.
Getting from LXS to Myrina
Twenty-two kilometres from the terminal to the capital, and one thing makes Lemnos easier than most Greek islands: the taxis work to a posted fare board. You can look up what your journey costs before you get in, which is rarer in the Aegean than it should be.

Even if you are only going to Myrina, glance at the whole list. Three or four euros, three times a day
KTEL Limnou runs buses from the airport area to Myrina roughly three times daily from Monday to Saturday, taking about half an hour and costing a few euros. Against a โฌ30 taxi that is a real saving. The constraints are the frequency and the complete absence of Sunday services, so this works if your flight happens to land in the right window and not otherwise. The Myrina terminus is on Eleftherios Venizelos square, which is also where every other island route begins.
A castle between two beaches
Myrina is built around a rocky headland with a Genoese castle on top and a beach on either side โ Romeikos Gialos to the north, lined with neoclassical houses and cafรฉs, and Tourkikos Gialos to the south by the harbour. The castle is free to walk up and there are deer living inside the walls, introduced decades ago and now entirely at home. The view at sunset takes in Mount Athos across the water on a clear evening.
The harbour and where boats go
Myrina's port runs ferries to Kavala and Thessaloniki on the mainland, to Lesvos and the north-eastern islands, and seasonally to Canakkale on the Turkish coast. A meaningful share of visitors to Lemnos arrive by sea rather than through the terminal. If you are connecting between a flight and a sailing, note that the bus timetable is thin enough that a booked transfer at โฌ32 to โฌ45 is the reliable option โ missing a boat here can cost a day.
The main street, and prices that surprise people
Kyda street runs up from the harbour through the middle of the town, and it is an ordinary Greek shopping street rather than a tourist one: bakeries, hardware shops, a couple of good tavernas and prices set for residents. Lemnos gets relatively few foreign visitors compared with the Cyclades, and the cost of eating and drinking reflects that. It is one of the cheaper islands in this guide.
Why almost everyone hires a car anyway
โฌ25 to โฌ45 a day from a handful of local firms at the terminal. Myrina itself is walkable and has paid parking near the front, so the car is not for the town โ it is for the island, which is large, flat and served by about three buses a day. The dunes at Gomati, the beaches at Thanos and Agios Ioannis, the archaeological site at Poliochni and the war cemeteries around Moudros are all a drive with no realistic alternative. Book before you fly; the fleet here is small.
Season, and a quieter kind of island
Lemnos is not a charter destination. The season is short, the visitors are largely Greek, and outside July and August a good share of what is open in the resorts elsewhere simply is not here. That makes it excellent in June and September and thin in May, so check that your accommodation and a taverna or two will be operating rather than assuming.
In short: about โฌ30 on the posted board, or three or four euros on one of three daily buses. Look at the fare list on your way out โ it is the most useful thing at this airport.
