Buying tickets in Paphos
Paphos is the island's smaller airport and its public transport is correspondingly thin: two OSYPA routes, both €1.50 paid on board. Route 612 runs to the harbour at Kato Paphos in about 30 minutes but only around every 70 minutes even in season. Route 613 goes to Karavella bus station in the upper town (Ktima) in about 40 minutes, with roughly four departures a day — near 08:00, 10:00, 16:30 and 19:00 — so it works only if your flight happens to land in the right window. Everywhere beyond Paphos itself means changing at Karavella onto an intercity service. Check the board on your way out of arrivals: if the next 612 is an hour away, the rank outside is the realistic option.
Taxi scams & safety in Paphos
Paphos taxis work to a published tariff sheet rather than an open meter, which makes this one of the few airports where you can look up the fare before you land — roughly €24.30 to Coral Bay, €42.77 to Polis and €46.27 to Limassol on the day rate, each rising after 20:30 when the night rate applies. Ask which rate you are being charged if you arrive near that boundary. Because the bus service is sparse, the practical risk here is not overcharging but being stranded, so book ahead if you land late or are heading to a villa. Cyprus drives on the left and hire cars carry red number plates. One contractual point worth knowing: standard rental agreements generally forbid the unsurfaced track to Lara Bay on the Akamas, and driving it voids the insurance — take a licensed jeep tour instead.
Getting from PFO to Aphrodite Hills
Aphrodite Hills is closer to the airport than Paphos town is — about fifteen kilometres east, twenty minutes on the coast road and then up the hill. Golf bags don't fit in every saloon, and a rank at a small airport doesn't guarantee an estate or a van turning up when you reach the front of the queue. Booking lets you state what you're carrying so the right vehicle arrives — two sets of clubs and two suitcases is a van, not a Corolla. Given that a large share of arrivals here are golfers, this is the standard way people do it.
Self-contained means what it says
Useful to understand before you decide about a car. The resort has its own village square with restaurants and a supermarket, the golf course, tennis, a spa and a pool complex, and it's designed so that you needn't leave. There's an internal shuttle around the site. What that means practically is that you can arrive by taxi and stay put for a week without difficulty — unlike a villa in Peyia or Polis, where you'd be stranded without wheels. It also means the resort is quiet in the evening; there's no town within walking distance.
What's within half an hour if you do hire
Call it €22 a day at the low end and €50 at the high, with extensive free parking on site. Pissouri's bay is twenty minutes east, Kourion's clifftop theatre half an hour, Paphos harbour half an hour west, and Petra tou Romiou is at the bottom of the hill. The coast road between Paphos and Limassol is a good drive with the sea on one side most of the way. For a week that mixes golf with sightseeing, a car earns its keep; for a golf-only trip it mostly sits in the car park.
Timing the return
Departures from Paphos to northern Europe often leave early, and the resort is twenty minutes from the terminal — which sounds comfortable until you remember there's no bus and every villa is booking a car for the same 05:00 window. Arrange the return transfer when you arrive, through guest services or the operator you came with. It costs the same and removes the one genuinely awkward moment of staying somewhere self-contained.
