You are either on a transfer that was arranged before you flew or in a taxi whose fare you settled at the rank, and either way you are through the resort gates before your bags feel heavy.

A twenty-minute drop down the coast

The geography does you a favour on this one. Sahl Hasheesh lies roughly 20 km straight south of HRG, and with light traffic on the coastal highway the drive comes in at about twenty minutes, twenty-five if a shared van is stopping elsewhere first. That is short enough that the price differences between modes stay small in absolute terms, so the real question is less about saving a few euros and more about how much thinking you want to do at the kerb.

One thing worth knowing before you pick: the resorts here are gated and the access road in from the highway is genuinely long, curving past manicured landscaping before it reaches individual hotel entrances. Whoever drives you needs to know your specific property, not just "Sahl Hasheesh."

The pre-booked car, and why families lean on it

A private transfer is the standard arrival here, and its strongest card on this particular route is not the meet-and-greet — it is that the driver takes you all the way through the gates to your own resort entrance, past a barrier a walk-up taxi may not be waved through as smoothly, with the price fixed before you land. Reckon on around €18-28 for the car to any Sahl Hasheesh resort gate, whatever the driver's mood or the hour.

It is also the option most set up for families. Book ahead and most local firms will fit child seats or send a larger van, which matters when you are travelling with a buggy, a cot's worth of gear, or dive kit stacked in the boot. The driver waits inside arrivals with a printout showing your name and resort, so there is no crowd-scanning while herding tired children. For a couple weighing pennies it can feel like a small extravagance on so short a hop; for a family of four or five it is often the calmest money you spend all week.

If you have booked a package — TUI, Jet2 and the like — check your paperwork before you pay for anything, because the transfer is very often already folded into the price. Charter flights into HRG have a habit of landing late, and the coast road south is quiet and unlit in stretches once you leave the airport lights behind. Nothing about it is difficult, but arriving at nine or ten at night is exactly when a fixed price and a known driver earn their keep — no haggling while half-asleep, no debate about which turn-off is yours. If you are on a taxi at that hour, settle the fare firmly and have small notes ready, as change is often mysteriously "unavailable."

An insider tip once you are settled: Sahl Hasheesh is quieter and more self-contained than Hurghada proper, and the house reef off the beach is good enough to snorkel straight from the shore, so many guests never arrange a boat trip at all. The Old Town square and the promenade give you somewhere to stroll in the evening, but for wider dining and nightlife you will want that same driver's number for the short run back into town.

Bottom line: it is a twenty-minute drop to a gated bay, so keep it simple.
