Faro Airport to Praia da Oura (Albufeira)
Praia da Oura is about 40 km west of Faro Airport in Albufeira. Cheapest in season is the €11 Aerobus plus a ~€1.40 Giro bus; fastest is a taxi or booked car, roughly 40 minutes.

Praia da Oura is the beach at the foot of Albufeira's Strip, around 40 minutes' drive from Faro Airport. The seasonal Aerobus only goes to the town's out-of-centre bus terminal, so a local Giro bus finishes the trip. Private transfers to this busy hotel area are cheap enough that groups of three or four often find them the best deal.

Every way to get there

What it costs for your group
The shuttle is charged per person, while a private transfer is one price for the whole car — so the more of you there are, the better door-to-door value looks.

| Solo · 1 traveller | €11 | €30 | Shuttle |

Buying tickets in Faro
Faro airport is linked to the city by the Próximo bus, principally route 16 (with route 14) to the bus terminal and centre, taking about 20 minutes for a single fare of roughly €2.80 paid to the driver. The airport has no train station of its own; the nearest is Faro railway station in the centre, about 6-7 km away, from where regional trains serve the wider Algarve. Carry some cash for the bus, though contactless is increasingly accepted.
Taxi scams & safety in Faro
Faro is low-key, but still use the marked taxi rank outside arrivals rather than any driver approaching you. Metered taxis into Faro city are short, typically around €10-16, a little more at night, on weekends, or with luggage and tolls, so confirm the fare basis before setting off. Uber and Bolt both operate at Faro airport and are often cheaper and more transparent than a metered cab; request the car in the app and meet it at the designated ride-hail pickup point.
Step-free access in Faro
Faro is small and the accessible options are straightforward.
- Bus line 16 connects the airport with the train station and the city centre and is wheelchair accessible — the buses have ramps and space for a wheelchair.
- Local taxis include vehicles fitted with ramps and room for a wheelchair or an electric scooter.
For the resort towns along the Algarve, adapted private transfers are the practical choice; the intercity coaches do not reliably offer step-free boarding.
Getting from FAO to Praia da Oura (Albufeira)
Oura, the Strip and the bus station problem
Praia da Oura is the beach at the eastern end of Albufeira's Areias de São João district, at the bottom of the nightlife street everyone calls the Strip. It is about 40 km from Faro Airport, around 40 minutes by car on the A22 or the coast road. The public transport quirk to know is that Albufeira's intercity bus terminal is at Caliços, well north of the old town and the Strip, so a bus ticket to "Albufeira" leaves you some distance from Oura. Expect to use a local bus or taxi for the last part.
Aerobus then Giro
In season, the Vamus Aerobus line 56 runs from the stop to the left of the airport's main exit to the Albufeira bus terminal for €11. Guides give the trip as about 40 minutes and list around seven daily departures from May to October plus a 20:15 run as line 57; the winter service is much thinner. Seats cannot be booked, so at busy times a full bus means waiting for the next one. Pay by cash to the driver, at the airport machine or with the Vamus app.
From the Caliços terminal, Albufeira's Giro town buses fan out on circular routes; the Green and Blue lines both serve Areias de São João (the Strip) and Oura. Guides put a single ticket at about €1.40, and a day pass at about €4, though we could not confirm the 2026 fare with the operator. Most Giro lines run from about 07:00 to 20:00, later in high summer. The total, about €12.40, makes this the cheapest door-adjacent option for a solo traveller.
Getting off the Giro bus, you may still have a short walk. Oura's hotels and apartments climb the slopes on both sides of the beach road, and the lower end of the Strip is steep in places. If you are staying near the cliff-top at the eastern end, ask the driver for the closest stop to your building's street rather than the beach itself.
The cheaper winter route
Outside the Aerobus season you can still go by public transport: take Próximo bus 16 into Faro, then a regional coach from Faro bus station to Albufeira, then the Giro bus. It works but involves three buses and an hour and a half or more. The train is not a good option: the station called "Albufeira" is actually in Ferreiras, about 7 km by road from the town.
Taxi meters and surcharges
Taxis at Faro are metered and the price depends heavily on when you travel. An Algarve guide puts a typical Albufeira fare at €60–70, with 20% added for weekends, 20% for evening travel and 20% for cars with more than four seats, cumulatively, while other estimates come in lower. Oura is at the near (eastern) side of Albufeira, so roughly €45–65 for a standard car on a weekday is a fair expectation. A new national taxi tariff takes effect on 23 October 2026 with a changeover period, so meters may show either system for a while.
Shared and private transfers
Because the Strip is one of the Algarve's busiest drop-off areas, transfer prices here are competitive. One aggregator quoted a sedan for three at €30 and a six-seat minivan at €45 for a 2026 summer date, with tolls and waiting covered; Suntransfers lists a private car for up to four from about €43 and a minivan for up to eight from about €57. Its shared Express Shuttle starts at about €11.50 per person. For a group of four, a private car often costs less per head than the Aerobus-plus-Giro route, and the driver can find the apartment block on the steep lanes above the beach, which saves a hot uphill walk.
Late flights
After the last evening Aerobus there is no direct public transport, and Giro buses stop running in the evening outside high summer. Late arrivals should either book a transfer ahead (the price is the same at midnight) or accept the night surcharge at the taxi rank. Ride-hailing apps operate at Faro; one guide quotes about €30 for a standard car to Albufeira at quiet times, rising with demand.
